About this project
"While the others were sleeping" is a solo music photography show of mine set for the beginning of april. The basis of this instillation is sharing with the world some of my documented travels with bands, and different music scenes in and around Detroit, Atlanta, and New York City.
I have the photographs chosen for the show, but need help with the production costs of executing this show!
from the press release:
Sacred Gallery nyc is proud to announce: “While the others were sleeping”
The music photography of Nathaniel Shannon. This solo exhibition is a collection of photographs from the past few years of Nathaniel’s archive of live, candid and backstage photographs
in clubs and on tour. Some of the muscians and bands shown will be; Pentagram, Henry Rollins,
the Dillinger Escape Plan, Eyehategod, Goatwhore, Coalesce, Converge, The Clipse and many more.
Sacred Gallery rules, and so does everyone there and at Sacred Tattoo. The gallery was just built recently, and has some pretty sick shows coming up this year, and I am honored to be a part of their roster. Please help me make this show the best it possibly can!

Nathaniel Shannon is a New York based freelance photographer and musician whose aggressive approach to live-music photography captures each subject in moments of complete artistic abandon.
Nathaniel draws his inspiration from the likes of Glen E. Friedman, Stanley Donwood and Floria Sigismond. His work captures the humor, bile and visceral escapism of brutal musicianship resulting in a lighthearted, but at times uncomfortably intimate exploration, of contemporary music culture, lifestyles, and imagery.
While Nathaniel’s in-your-face, eye-to-eye, gorilla methods have caused criticism by some musicians and associates of the metal, rap, hardcore, and punk-rock scenes of New York and Detroit, and Atlanta, the volume of praise for his work has led to exposure in over fifty publications, several record sleeves, and seven installations. Nathaniel was raised in Ypsilanti, MI and attends the School of Visual Arts in NYC. He currently resides on the LES.
Nathaniel is currently at work on an untitled full-length book, which is a collection of the last decade of his live music photography. He is also in production of The Dead Baby Joke Book: A Coffee Table Companion. Recently, an installation of a few photographs from the Dead Baby Joke book resulted in a health complaint being filed with the SVA Human Resources department, and a toxicology test taken. The lab results, which were testing "blood" involved with the instillation came back negative, surprise, surprise.
