One of the most common questions Keren and Pam hear at speaking engagements upon returning from their repeated trips to the Occupied Palestinian Territories is "where  is the "Palestinian Gandhi"? In other words, if Palestinians just tried renouncing violence, the Israeli occupation would soon (and peacefully) come to an end.

But there are many 'Palestinian Gandhis'! They just need a platform

What is tragic is that there are many Palestinians -- young and old; male and female; Muslim and Christian; from all political points of view -- who peacefully advocate for change every day. They are unsung heroes who resist occupation and strengthen their society by marching...investigating...speaking out...painting...dancing...writing...and so much more. However, their stories and their work aren't given a platform beyond their borders. The video above was shot by Pam earlier this year when she lived in Gaza for three months, documenting the Palestinians' reactions when shown evidence of the widespread perception that nonviolent advocacy for change is alien to their culture.

How do we plan to help?

Keren and Pam intend to help change the current discourse by giving these everyday heroes a platform. We will produce a series of video vignettes of these non-violent leaders -- one-on-one interviews interspersed with footage of them in action -- in Gaza (already complete), the West Bank/East Jerusalem, Israel (20% of Israeli citizens are Palestinian!) and Lebanon. The vignettes will be posted on a special You Tube channel and on a custom website linked to numerous others, and featured in speaking engagements at conferences and other venues. A DVD  will be produced for broad distribution, and -- with continued support and funding -- this initial footage could be the foundation for a documentary film.

Because we are passionate about the need for this education, the Gaza work has already been funded by an investment from Pam and some early donors. However, we need your help to include the stories from the remaining territories and refugee camps, as well as to obtain exposure far and wide for these talented but struggling change agents. Your money will allow us to travel back to the region; hire a local cameraman, editor and translator; find these unsung heroes; and capture their stories to share with others.
