My Dear Supporters! It has been just over a year since my Kickstarter project successfully reached its funding goal, and over 8 months since I last sent out an update! Today want to share with you the exciting movement I've made since you "kickstartered" my career.
In September I began writing and pre-production for my new full-length Bachata album. Bachata is a style of music that originated in the Dominican Republic. Its songs are romantic; usually about heartbreak or passion, and the genre is heavily dominated by male singers. But not only am I pushing boundaries coming into the genre as a female, I'm crossing into unchartered territory as the first white, non-Latina American-born Bachatera. The classic Bachata sound that I've created- which is infused with a rich mix of jazz, R&B and soul- has already received industry support and critical acclaim in Santo Domingo, New York City and around the world. I invite you to visit my website (http://www.rebeccakingsley.com/#!bio/c1c93) where at the bottom of the "Bio" page you can read some of the articles I was recently featured in (I include English translations), and you are also able to click on a video of my live performance on "De Extremo a Extremo", one of the most popular daytime shows in all of Latin America.
I released my first ever music video on YouTube just over a month ago and already it has received 20,000 views (unofficial versions included- over 50,000 views). The video is of the "Killing Me Softly" cover I did as part of the Kickstarter album, which features three-time Grammy Award-winning Haitian-American artist, Wyclef Jean (http://youtu.be/ldiKUfWC37s). The full Bachata album is still unreleased, but on my website you can listen to an album sampler- about 30 seconds of each song (http://www.rebeccakingsley.com/#!musica/c1iei). I released "Killing Me Softly" on iTunes, along with a second single, "Si Supieras Tú" (https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/rebecca-kingsley/id595795266).
And as of yesterday, "My Man" is now available on iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/rebecca-kingsley/id595795266 Darren Mastropaolo and I wrote "My Man" together in 2009. In 2012, I produced it as part of the Kickstarter Album you all helped me create, and this summer the song was selected out of over 20,000 entries in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) in the Jazz category (for a list of the other semifinalists visit http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/semi-finalists.html).
As you see, I could not have done ANY of this without your support!
A week from today I have a very big and exciting show at SOB's, the famous live music venue located in Soho (NYC). I'll be performing for the first time ever with my 11-piece Bachata band! 2 sets, including all of the unreleased material off of my Bachata album. Doors open at 6pm, Bachata dance lessons at 7pm, and we go on with our first set at about 9pm and play until close! Feel free to email me with any questions. Hope to see you there!
Thank you again and again.
P.S. Below, I will include links to my blog, website, Twitter, YouTube channel, etc. Stay in touch!
