About this project
Everyone has some sort of relationship with this monster of an American icon. If you've traveled a lot on interstates and are a consumer, you know and need it. It is a symbol of strength, solitude, bounty, loneliness, endurance, and waste. It's poetic and tragic and awesome. It's the multi-ton hulking delivery system sitting two feet from your side-view at 75 miles per hour. Plus it's inspired tons of country songs.
Crystal and I are the artists in residence at Mile Post 5 for the next two months, http://www.milepostfive.com/residency, and we came up with this out of a shared intrigue for this object and the people that ride in it, the closest thing we can think of to a modern day cowboy. Whether we were recalling the awe we felt as kids or the curiosity we have about truckers' lives now, the strength of the image was something we really wanted to get to know better. We barely have room to move around in the room they're loaning us and we had to chop off the back of the trailer to get it to fit.
So since the majority of the materials for this ridiculously large sculpture are from either our past sculptures or are free donations from Craigslist, the whole project isn't costing us that much, but we would love any help you could lend. Things like extra 2x4s, paint, screws, brackets, and posters do add up and are more than we can manage on our own. Our aim is $250. Even $4 helps. And we want any good truck stories you have to tell too.

You get a sculpted piece of the truck. The side view mirrors and smoke stacks are pretty cool. Also the wheels would make a killer coffee table base. First come first serve.
Pledge $45 or more
You get your own casting of the hood ornament. We aren't sure what that is going to be yet but you get one. And I will buy you a beer at the Portland bar of your choice. Oh my god thank you.
