Excited by the revitalization of Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward, Brandon Ley & Johnny Martinez want to in bring a new bar concept.
The brainchild of owners Brandon Ley and Johnny Martinez, Joystick is going to be a unique bar experience for Atlanta. This laid-back spot will combine everything Brandon and Johnny love: good conversation with good people over good food and good drinks. And Galaga. With vintage, coin-operated games lining the walls, Joystick is a new take on the classic arcade.
We envision a place where you can challenge your date, your friends, yourself, or even a stranger to beat your high score at Ms. Pac-Man. Maybe have a friendly fight to the death with Mortal Kombat. Then be sure to grab a drink menu where the classic and house cocktails created by Brandon, served in a non-pretentious, affordable environment, will encourage sipping and conversation among people. Our food will be served until 3am for people needing a late night nibble. But Joystick doesn't believe that a midnight snack needs to be an afterthought. The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Evan Cordes, will offer hand crafted food that will satisfy your stomach and make your taste buds pay attention. Chef Evan and Brandon believe in local sourcing and they make that a common business practice.
With your help, this place can be a reality. Located in downtown Atlanta on Edgewood Ave. between Boulevard and Jackson St., we are excited be a part of the revitalization of the historic Old Fourth Ward. There is a real sense of community among everyone we've spoken to on Edgewood and that has assured us we are putting Joystick in the right location. Another plus to our location is that the building is LEED Platinum Certified and with Truly Living Well Recycling Center only a few blocks away we are able to be as green as possible. And so our lease is signed and our liquor license is on it's way.
Kickstarter and Joystick seems like a natural marriage for us. From the camaraderie we want to foster in our establishment to the camaraderie already permeating the Old Fourth Ward, it only makes sense that our last bit of fundraising would take advantage of this fantastic concept. We like the idea of our baby being raised by a village. If you are unfamiliar with Kickstarter, their FAQ does a good job of breaking it down. Basically, it allows anyone to donate any amount to a project in exchange for the satisfaction of making dreams come true... and sweet rewards like those listed to the right. But we don't get any money (or you any rewards) if we don't make our goal in the alloted time. So please watch our video and if it seems like a worthwhile project to you then we would love it if you can give what you can. These funds will go to purchasing the equipment we need, such as an ice maker and refrigeration, as well as smallwares, such as glasses and plates. We look to have our Grand Opening in Spring of this year, so we are definitely "Coming Soon" with your help.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and we hope you'll come get a drink and a snack when we open!
--[Our video was created by the incomparable Stephen Keown of Omega Media Group, to whom our debt of gratitude is as great as he is funny.]--
We can! The original intention of the reward was to offer you simply the recipe (and information) to make something that was so personal it was essentially a person in a glass. But since then we decided to launch a special limited time Kickstarter cocktail menu. Of course, depending on demand they could become permanent fixtures. And since it'll be on our menu we will have final creative input on the name but we definitely want you to be heavily involved in the process since it is a cocktail representing you or a loved one.
