The Gig Poster Project is a multi-faceted arts program engaging students with their communities through music and design.

The Gig Poster Project is a multi-faceted arts program engaging students with their communities through music and design. This fall, we will work with three Chicago high schools, and over 200 students. Our team of teaching artists will spend three full days at each schools, working in a mix of art and math classes. Students will be introduced to screen printing and basic design. They will then implement these principles by creating their own poster concepts on bristol board with pen, ink, and colored pencils.

These presentations and projects all work toward the goal of exposing students to a broad range of opportunities to use art to connect with their communities. These in-school workshops will culminate in a city-wide public exhibition at Harold Washington College.

In Phase Two, Mucca Pazza, with assistance from the classroom teachers, will award 18 honorable mentions and a grand prize. These are the students we invite to learn more in a professional printshop. We are providing students dedicated to art the opportunity to develop their own projects.

The grand prize winner will be commissioned to design and print a gig poster for Mucca Pazza. This student will receive a mentorship: We’ll support the student through the process of meeting with a client, creating and presenting concept drawing, making separations for screen printing and finally, editioning the poster.

The first year of this comprehensive program will end with concert at a local venue, headlined by Mucca Pazza.

*We have already applied for grants and are awaiting determination. We are also actively working on in-kind donations. This support plus kickstarter funding will cover the complete costs of the program.
