Greek mythology on stage for children and Family. For discovering western cultural roots and learn a foreign language!
Since May 2010, “L’Oiseau Bleu”, a New York City-based theater company, has been creating a bilingual French-English show inspired by Greek mythology, designed for children and family. The idea is to make language and western cultural roots accessible to all. We also want to share our passion for theater, language, and for the fantastic and greatly inspiring Greek myths.
“A Large Family” (Une Grande Famille) is the first part of a series of 6 plays about Greek gods, demigods, nymphs, creatures, mortals... A large, a huge family shall we say!
The narrator is Zeus great-great-great-great-great-great-great grand-daughter, coming from the ancient world to deliver the fantastic stories of her large family. Both clown and joker, this enigmatic character who portrays various roles, takes the audience on a wild ride in a very original, poetic and extremely lively tale!
Both educational and very entertaining, our performances give a theatrical version of some founding Greek myths which left their marks on us today in a myriads of way. From the names of the planets, to the subjects of many of our greatest works of art and literature, to molding our psychological motifs, and more.
We are taking “A Large Family” to the “Off” Avignon Festival in July, and will be performing at “La Petite Caserne” Theatre! The Avignon Festival is an annual arts festival held in French city of Avignon. Founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, it is the oldest extant festival in France and one of the world's greatest.
It is for us a wonderful and unique opportunity to perform our show during three weeks, and to perfect it for the New York 2011-2012 season.
