The Loneliest Road snakes through the continental US across 3200 miles of some of the most desolate and beautiful landscapes of America, trailing the westward expansion of the early pioneers and settlers. Flowing through the land peppered with tiny towns struggling to keep modernity at bay, open vistas untouched by human hand, and vast stretches of serene nothingness, The Loneliest Road also known as US-50, or Backbone of America, provides you with the cross section of the american landscape.

I will be traveling by myself along the US-50 from Ocean City, Maryland, to San Francisco in California in order to capture and document the America that often-times goes by unnoticed, and is slowly disappearing from our consciousness as modernity and suburban sprawl march forward. Horizon devouring cornfields, abandoned farmsteads, burning deserts, time-worn towns and majestic mountains. Juxtaposition of failing edifices of man against the splendor and grandeur of nature along the crooked vein of America.

I will be documenting the voyage, the land and the people with photography using a wide assortment of digital and analogue equipment, from old film warhorses such as Argus "The Lunchbox" C3, and medium format cameras like Yashica-Mat 124 TLR to modern DSLR systems such as Nikon D50. Not every photo needs fidelity, and not every camera can capture the spirit of a place.

Main goal of this this endavor is publishing of a photo book detailing this historic highway, and my trek through the continental US. To expand the narrative I am also planning on providing daily updates and diary entries to all the people who contribute to this project, through the it's blog.

Anything and everything will be photographed, and I hope that those choosing to pledge money towards this venture, will be able to experience the splendor of the loneliest road and the beautiful scenery of the country it bisects.

While such projects are usually a big financial drain, I have made arrangements to cover most of the costs of this endeavor. Your pledges would help me cover the most crucial expense of the trip, namely the transportation costs. The whole journey will span over 6400 miles, which translates to many gallons of gasoline. I feel that 700 of american dollars would cover most of those expenses, and help me out find some cheap motels for the nights when sleeping in a car is not an option. Any amount over the specified fundraising goal would just go towards making my journey a less spartan affair.
