Update #33: End of July Update

Posted on July 30, 2011

I have received a number of inquiries on the current status of “Goodbye Promise.”

Before I update you, I just want to say that I am grateful that we have the number of people that we do who are supporting this film and are anxious to see it.  Makes me feel really blessed.  Thank you for playing your part in making all this possible.

On with the update.

On Thursday, I picked up the Dialogue Edit from Noah Kass.  Noah has been our latest savior to the project.  Dialogue editing and ADR can be tedious.  Noah has a true love and passion for it.  Thank you Noah!  You are certainly a welcome member of this team.

From there I turned the files over to our Sound Designer Thomas Corkran yesterday.  We were concerned that the possibility remained that we would have to ADR one remaining scene.  As of right now, it looks like we will be okay and that we do not have to re-record the dialogue.  Thank God.  (though it’s not the final word yet.)

**Scroll down for our latest ADR pictures with Actors Todd Cattell and Brian Durkin.  ADR sessions run by the aforementioned Noah Kass.  And thanks to my dearest Karen Worden for taking the photos.

Our composer CJ Wallis really has done a masterful job with our original score.  Many of these songs stand out on their own.  Just writing these words, I had to open up one of CJ’s tracks and I am now listening as I write.  We have laid most of CJ’s work onto the timeline.  Is it okay to say that we are just as excited for you to hear CJ’s music as we are for you to see the film?

If you missed the last update, here is a sneak preview (http://bit.ly/k6sVNn) of one of CJ’s original tracks entitled “Patchwork Parade.”

We are awaiting six more tracks from CJ that include some notes that we had.  Those should be delivered to us this week.  We also have a bonus track contributed by Tyshawn Bryant who plays “Mylo” in the film.  We also have holdover tracks from our temp soundtrack contributed by Jordan Allen (who also performs an original song in the film) that really fit the tone of the film and we are keeping on the timeline.  That should round out all the music we need.

We must still complete the overall sound mix.  Thomas Corkran has created soundscapes for each scene.  We need to add all of our sound effects, make sure our music is where we want it to be, and EQ the whole thing.

Beyond the sound, we are down to Color Correction and finalizing our Opening / Closing Titles.

That is where we stand to complete the film.  It has been a laborious journey to get this far and we are almost there thanks to the efforts of many.

Our work doesn’t end there.

We then will turn our attention back to fulfilling all of our Kickstarter promises while gearing up to release the film.  More on that front after we get the film done (and that day is coming.)

Thank you for your love and support,

David Branin & the Goodbye Promise Team

Update #32: New Original Score Preview by C.J. Wallis

Posted on June 25, 2011

It's a great day when you receive 16 songs for your film's soundtrack.

Come Monday, our sound designer Thomas Corkran, Producer / Actor Gregor Collins, and myself will have our first session where we sit down and begin placing the music that our composer (and fellow filmmaker) C.J. Wallis sent us a couple days ago.

In this excitement, we wanted to share one of the tracks with you.  Hope you will take the time to enjoy "Patchwork Parade."  Click on the link to C.J.'s blog for the Preview.

We encourage you to share or tweet if you enjoy this track as much as we do.

Thank you for your love and support,

Marcella and Susan! Thank you so much. We look forward to sharing more with you. All the tracks that CJ has submitted to us have us very excited. We are fortunate to have found someone who meets the sensibilities of our film.

Update #28: VIDEO UPDATE from David Branin & Karen Worden 6/22/10

Posted on June 22, 2010

Dear Friends,

Here is a Video Update that is long overdue.

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

As you can imagine, my world has been swamped since the ending of this Kickstarter Campaign. I cannot tell you how many people have reached out to me for advice, counsel, or suggestions for their own crowd-funding efforts. I believe this is an exciting time for all artists and I have done what I can to help others to help pay forward what you have done for me and my team.

If you have a few minutes, please view the video update above. It contains a few minutes of footage from GOODBYE PROMISE. Currently we are working on the spine / structure of the film. So it is very raw.

More exciting updates to come.

Thank you for your love and support,
David Branin & the Goodbye Promise Team

PS - Highly recommend you tuning into this "Goodbye Promise Team" consultation with Filmmaker Arin Crumley on how we should market and distribute our film. Arin is really exceptional. - http://bit.ly/cFL6Tl

Update #27: David Branin's CROWD FUNDING CHEAT SHEET

Posted on May 7, 2010

Dear Friends,

I am in the process of touching base with many of you. 227 people is a lot!

I have spent a lot of time this week writing insights on this crowd-funding campaign. Since we achieved our goal, a good number of folks have been reaching out to me for advice. From here on out, I will be able to send this to this blog.

http://filmcourage.blogspot.com/2010/05/david-branins-crowd-funding-cheat-sheet.html

Since a number of you are artists yourselves, I thought you may benefit (I hope you benefit) from this blog. It is a long one, but it is one you can read in pieces. Wish I could spend more time on it, but I have many more things to get to.

We have begun thanking each of you on our Facebook page. I am doing it in reverse order so that our earliest backers will be thanked last. Join the page if you haven't already so you can receive updates. http://www.facebook.com/goodbyepromise

More to come.

Thank you for your love and support,

Update #25: THANK YOU!!! Part 1

Posted on April 30, 2010

Dear Friends!

Thank you for believing and supporting GOODBYE PROMISE. This is really about You. We owe it all to each of you for making our dream a reality. Our aim was to have a true Fan-Funded film. In the middle of this campaign it was looking bleak. We held our faith and it is because of your determination that we are able to be included in the circle of successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Currently, our project is #30 in the halls of Kickstarter's Most Popular Campaigns. Not too shabby.

To update you on where things stand right now, Kickstarter and Amazon have been working payments. We will receive your monies next week.

Our editor ARIC LEWIS has been at work editing every day. When he is ready, I hope to share a few updates with you from the editing room.

In the aftermath of our campaign, I have been on the phone with a number of people about our project.

Here is an interview with WENDY SHEPHERD of OFFICIALLY PLUGGED IN that features insights from GREGOR COLLINS, KAREN WORDEN, and I.

http://www.officiallypluggedin.com/news/2010/04/interview-goodbye-promise/

Be on the lookout for an interview that I did with Student Filmmaker Magazine.

Also, fellow Filmmaker and Backer JOHN PAUL RICE was just interviewed on REX SIKES MOVIE BEAT where he mentioned our campaign along with the campaigns of filmmaker friends and Backers GARY KING & JOHN TRIGONIS. The discussion begins at 28:50.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/rex-sikes/2010/04/30/rex-sikes-movie-beat-chats-with-producer-john-paul-rice-pt-2

This message is already longer than I would have liked. Going to break it up here.

Once again, my sincerest gratitude to you for bringing our dream to life. I know many of you have yet to hear from me. I am doing my best to handle my workload and follow up. Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for your Love and Support,
David Branin & each of the Goodbye Promise Team

Update #24: WE DID IT!!!! Still 8 hours left!

Posted on April 22, 2010

Dear Friends,

Quick Update...

Alarm goes off. Open eyes. Disbelief. Goodbye Promise IS OFFICIALLY FUNDED! A backer who wishes to remain anonymous upped their pledge this morning to take us over the edge. More than any futile personal achievement, I'm more proud of this being a VICTORY FOR INDEPENDENT FILM and the power of unconditional love and blind trust. Official thank yous will be given through our page all through the day!

This is overwhelming for us. The last 96 hours has been a blur. There are still 8 hours left for new backers to become a part of our team.

Barring a mass exodus here in our final hours : ) We have done it. You have helped to make our dream a reality. You have given us something we will always cherish. The outpouring of love.... THANK YOU.

Update #23: FINAL 18 HOURS....

Posted on April 22, 2010

Dear Friends,

Today was a very tough day. The loss of our cat Scooby has been devastating. I cannot explain why triumph and tragedy are linked so closely together but they certainly are. There is more I would like to write about it, but I am going to save it for another time and place.

We now have 18 hours to raise $3885. When we started this campaign, I didn't imagine it would be coming down to the wire like this. I also never could have imagined the support YOU have given me and this project. All of us involved in this film have been so touched by you and your efforts to help us meet our goal. Honestly, I am not sure I have ever received this kind of outpouring of love. It is so overwhelming that it is hard to put into words. For that reason, whether the goal is reached or not, this campaign has been worth it.

I refuse to believe that we will not reach our goal. With the support I am seeing and experiencing I believe we are going to race to our end goal. Thank you for believing in me, our team and this project. I will see you at the finish line!

Thank you for your love and support!
David Branin & the Goodbye Promise Team

PS - This campaign has gotten frenetic in these final days. Each of you who are contributing to this film are our friends and family. I am going to be doing my best to touch base with each one of you personally. My work certainly does not end when this campaign ends. Please do not hold it against me if I have yet to directly thank you. I will not leave you hanging.

Update #22: We will finish this for 'Scooby'

Posted on April 21, 2010

Dear friends & Goodbye Promise Supporters, Forgive Karen & I for being noticeably absent here in our final hours. We are saying 'goodbye' to our beloved cat 'Scooby' who is unable to fight on with us. We are going to miss you buddy. You have shown us as much fight as any being we have ever known.

Thank you friends for ...all the outpouring of love we are seeing for our 'Goodbye Promise' campaign. We are going to make it. I will be back as soon as I can to thank you, respond to messages, posts, etc.

Update #21: 25 NEW BACKERS - NEW VIDEO - 40 Hours to go!

Posted on April 21, 2010

Dear Friends,

This is it. We are now in the final hours of this campaign. 40 hours to be exact. Together we have raised $9827! We are just $173 away from crossing the $10K which is our next short term goal.

What an amazing journey it has been to get to this point. It is hard to believe that only hours remain to see if we will meet our goal. Many folks have begun asking me whether or not I believe we can reach $15K. I have always believed that we can reach our end goal. There is no doubt in my mind that we are going to make it.

The outpouring of support and love for this project is growing to staggering proportions. We suffered a major setback today when a 'Fake' backer pledged $500 to put us on the brink of $10K. We then discovered that this backer had his account suspended. Our hopes were sky high that we would get above the $10K mark and surge ahead. Instead, we continue to fight and claw our way towards the promised land.
Photobucket
How can I be so confident that we are going to be able to raise $5K in the next 40 hours? Perhaps because of an experience like the one I had tonight. On their own accord, Backers GARY KING, JERRY CAVALLARO, PHIL HOLBROOK, & MARINELL MONTALES began a 'Sleep Strike' until we reached 180 Backers. They helped drive this campaign to 180 Backers. Then BRIAN DURKIN chimed in that he would not sleep until we reached 185 Backers. Gary, Phil, & Jerry continued to stay awake until this new goal was met. We were joined by @DDOGFILM, LORD PANCREAS, EMILY HADDAD, KIERAN MASTERTON, & ANDRETTI DANTE. These folks continued to push this campaign until we reached 186 Backers (1 more than required).

Many of these same folks are willing to take this same stance again tomorrow night which will be our last night before this campaign ends. It is this kind of effort which shows me that we will not be denied.

It is inevitable that when you have a dream, you are going to lose sleep for that dream. Here it is 3:44am and I am here typing this Update. I would like to acknowledge our latest Backers who made it possible for our tireless Backers to get some sleep. THANK YOU to ALAIN AGUILAR, RYAN WEHNER, ANNE, KEVIN RIEPL, SHERRY 'COSMO' CUMMINGS, DEVIN WATSON, HUGH GUINEY, EMILY MILLAY HADDAD, JOHN T. WOODS, SUSAN & MICHAEL JOHN SCHOFIELD, ANDRETTI DANTE, VK SHAH, & DOLLY MOLONEY!

I am expecting another big day on Wednesday 4/21! We are going to bring this home. I am seeing support everywhere from so many of you. You have been so wonderful, a big part of what is happening here is what you are helping us make happen. I will be continuing to thank you and spread the word in your favor long after this campaign ends.

Lastly, I would like to share this VIDEO of GREGOR COLLINS who has some final words to offer on this Kickstarter Campaign.

Update #20: 19 NEW Backers, $9000+ funding... 65 Hours Remain

Posted on April 20, 2010

Dear Friends,

What a tremendous day we had today! We finished the day with 19 NEW Backers. Not only that but two backers also upped their generous pledges. TOM VAUGHAN doubled his pledge and JUAN SALAZAR nearly tripled his pledge to put this campaign at the $9000 mark. We finished the day with $9075 raised.

The rally we saw today came at a much needed time as we are in the final hours of this campaign and still have a considerable amount of money ($5925) to raise to reach our $15,000 goal. In case you are not aware, though you have 'pledged' in support of 'Goodbye Promise' we have not received your money. We ONLY receive your money if we reach our $15,000 goal. Here on Kickstarter it is ALL or NOTHING.

Because of what is at stake, we saw an absolutely amazing outpouring of support from so many of you. I did my best to keep up with all of your facebook postings, tweets, posts, etc. I will continue to respond to as many as I can during these final hours of this campaign. We are really blessed to have such a supportive and caring team behind this film. My eyes literally watered up several times today seeing all of the effort you are putting in to help us reach this goal. We are seeing and experiencing the 'Impact of the Crowd' as well as the 'Power of the Deadline.'

As great as today's campaign has been, we are going to need to duplicate if not surpass our outreach efforts. All together we have 161 Backers who believe in this project. I am hoping you are up for 2 more days of pushing this campaign with me so that independent film has another success story and of course so that we can deliver to this film to you sooner rather than later.

Our goal today is to reach 200 Backers. That means we are seeking 39 New Backers to contribute to the project. That many backers coming on board will give us the momentum we need to race through the finish line.

Update #19: CONGRATULATIONS to Friend & Filmmaker Gary King (4 DAYS LEFT!!)

Posted on April 18, 2010

Dear Friends,

Miracles do happen here on Kickstarter. Two weeks ago, fellow Filmmaker Gary King who has become a dear friend of Karen and mine, flew out from New York City along with Actress Christina Rose to appear on our Film Courage Radio Show to promote his Kickstarter Campaign for his upcoming film, HOW DO YOU WRITE A JOE SCHERMANN SONG (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grking/how-do-you-write-a-joe-schermann-song-a-feature...)

Photobucket

His campaign goal is to raise $30K. As he sat there in studio with us, his campaign was at $16,000. And now? With less than 2 hours to go before his Kickstarter closes, he has successfully raised $30,890 (maybe more by the time it closes.)

It is an amazing success story and one that has shook the independent film world. Gary works at everything he does with an abundance of tireless energy. He literally spent several of the final nights engaged in 'sleep strikes.' He wouldn't go to bed until certain goals were reached. (I was right there with him) I am extremely proud to see Gary's hard work pay off. His success is earned and it is deserved. Now go make your film Gary!

Many folks in the indie film world are beginning to turn their attention to our campaign. This has been a very visible campaign in the independent film community. It is our responsibility to provide another success story that will inspire filmmakers all over the world.

Our goal is to surpass $15,000 raised before 8pm PST this Thursday April 22nd.

We are 55% Funded with $8280 raised and 4 Days Left to raise the $6720 needed to meet our goal. An unmet goal means that we will receive none of your pledges. It is time to make our miracle happen.

Thank you for your love and support,
David Branin & the Goodbye Promise Team
