About VOCE
VOCE's provocative arrangements integrate elements of three traditions: western classical forms, jazz improvisation, and folk elements from different lands. The compositions range from darkly epic and driving, to playful and contemplative, varying in length from vignettes to longer suites. Refreshing, challenging, and profoundly sensual, VOCE appeals to audiences across the spectrum.
VOCE was formed in 2005 in Boston and has been evolving ever since. As you can see in the video excerpts VOCE personnel is large, normally varying between 8 and 15 players; therefore the budget for making this album is higher than what I’ve needed for other group recordings.
This is my first Kickstarter project; it’s very pleasing to see how the site provides an opportunity for one to reach an artistic goal by involving friends and fellow artists so closely in the project. I’ve been putting most of my time into advancing my compositional and improvisational language for this ensemble.
