About this project

We are Chris Ullrich and Joseph Dilworth and we are creating and co-writing several comic books under the 1222 Studios banner. Our first collaboration is the four issue comic mini-series Believer.

Believer tells the story of Jack Hollenbeck, disgraced Los Angeles police detective turned tabloid reporter and occasional private investigator who is hired by a mysterious woman and her aging father to locate an an ancient object of incredible value . . . and incredible power.

During the course of Jack's investigation and search for the object, he soon realizes things are not what they seem as sinister forces, human and otherwise, converge on Los Angeles to prevent him, by any means necessary, from finding the object.

Aided by a woman he doesn't really trust and relying on his wits, a few friends in the police who don't hate him, and his knowledge of ancient magics he's extremely reluctant to use, Jack must brave all manner of hardship to find the object before someone else does and uses its power to enslave mankind.

MORE ABOUT the PROJECT and Our Philosophy

We've already invested what we can of our own money to get this first comic book project off the ground. Now, we've turned to Kickstarter to raise enough funds to finish the first issue of Believer and hopefully more.

The money we raise here will go to the artist for pencils and inks of the remaning pages of issue #1, to the artist for the color cover of issue #1, lettering of issue #1 and printing costs associated with printing at least 250 copies of issue #1.

It will also go to the various fees needed to pay Kickstarter and Amazon should we be successful in funding the project. If we have any money left, that will go towards completing as much of issue #2, #3 and #4 of Believer as possible.

Our goal isn't to personally make money with this project but to hopefully use it as a stepping stone to creating more comics and telling more stories that we're passionate about.

About the Artwork

We've already had a few pages drawn and inked for the first issue of Believer by artist Kris Carter. He will be joining us for the first four issues of Believer and hopefully for more of our projects in the future.

More About Chris and Joe

Chris Ullrich -- Chris began his professional career while still in college and worked in the entertainment industry as a writer, production manager and producer. During that time, he also became a member of the Director’s Guild of America and gained extensive experience producing feature films, series television, music videos, commercials and more.

Joseph Dilworth, Jr. -- Joseph Dilworth Jr. has been writing since he could hold a pencil (back then it was one of those big, fat red pencils, the Faber-Castell GOLIATH. Remember those? Now that was a pencil!).  

He has been Editor-in-Chief of Pop Culture Zoo for four years, a fiction writer for two decades and a comic book reader his whole life. Joe is a regular voice on The Comics Archive podcast and has appeared on TV Times Three and BJ Shea’s Geek Nation. He likes quiet evenings by the Kindle Fire and long walks through his imagination.
