Something In Spanish began 5 years ago in Miami, FL when Michelle ‘Olga’ Perez and Julio ‘ Santos’ Monterrey found each other through mutual friends and started making music together.

Michelle played guitar in her teens, but she was interested in becoming more of a dancer and performer than a traditional singer/songwriter. Julio, a seasoned jazz musician (who at one point toured the globe with the great Maynard Ferguson) immersed himself in performance art and avant-dance music. Over time they have both evolved out of their musical comfort zones, discovering a sound that they now call Avant-Pop - a fusing of elements from 60’s pop, experimental electronic music, dance and free jazz.

Throughout their 5 years of existence, they have earned accolades for their live show and unique sound. They have played alongside emerging and established acts from around the globe like Stereo Total, Japanther, the Pinkertones, Hess is More and Midnight Magic and have been invited to play some of the swankiest art shows on both coasts.

For years they have searched for a producer that would help bring their songs to fruition. Last year they developed a friendship with Andrew Raposo, of the acclaimed Hercules and the Love Affair and Jessica 6. Andrew has generously agreed to take on the task of producing the debut SIS record in his Greennpoint studio, Midnight Sun. His honest enthusiasm and impeccable taste are key to the translation of SIS's music.

What started as a weekly jam session in Miami has evolved into a cutting edge musical project. Both Michelle and Julio are deeply committed to making Something in Spanish 'happen.'

The goal of this kickstarter is to raise the $6000 necessary to cover expenses for recording, mixing, and mastering the first Something in Spanish album and its initial launch. The idea is to record and release two songs by April (which you will get first if you support us!) and then an EP by the summer. By December of 2011 we will have a fully produced, mixed and mastered album.
