Party time!
If you are in the NYC region, please join us on May 1 for a party in Brooklyn. The good folks at Brooklyn Winery (213 N. 8th St., Williamsburg) have chosen their four favorite local Kickstarter projects to host. $10 gets you a ticket, a half-pour of wine, and the comfort of knowing that all the proceeds will go directly to the four featured projects. Since the party is on May Day, we will show a clip from the totally awesome 1971 May Day anti-war demonstration in D.C. The other projects are also totally excellent and worthy, and we are honored to be included amongst them. Here is the Facebook event invite. We'd love to see you there!
Happy Earth Day!
Today is a great day to think about a less discussed aspect of "the Nixon legacy," which is his historic and pioneering record of environmentalist policy. This was a key issue on John Ehrlichman's domestic affairs agenda and was probably what he thought he'd be most remembered for. Do you like the EPA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and things like that? You have Nixon to thank for that (at least partially). Given his record, it's perhaps not so surprising that today's progressives are asking whether Obama can live up to Nixon's record on environmentalism. We enjoyed this CSPAN video where Ehrlichman discussed his experience of the burgeoning environmentalist movement in the 1960s from his position first as an environmental lawyer and then in the Nixon White House. We bet Gloria Steinem never thought she'd share a panel with John Ehrlichman. Just sayin'.

Whoa, we just remembered that there is another reason to think of Nixon today: April 22 is the anniversary of President Nixon's death in 1994. Bob Dole said at his funeral, "[t]he second half of the 20th century will be known as the age of Nixon." Was he correct? Either way: RIP, RMN.
