The project idea formed about two years ago, when I was trying to install new cleats. Measuring the shoes, checking against the shoe lines, it all just wasn't adding up to the same position that I spent so much time getting right the last time. So I started working on diagrams for a tool that could do this right, and consistently the same, time after time.

The first set of prototypes were working models we've assembled with the help of mechanical engineers and machinists. This you can see this as the brown model in the video. Then moved to more advanced, and precise CAD software for the most recent prototypes (seen as the silver model in the video). 

 The CLĒT Rak tool is made out of aluminum and plastic and will be sold as a “base” tool that will have cleat retainers sold separately. These retainers are inter-changeable, and will hold the cleat in position so that you can install the hardware freely by hand. The tool will address one large compliant many cyclists had over the years, “How do I get these cleats right?”.  I’ve worked with mechanical engineers and certified sports medicine directors, to research and refine a product that any home novice or the professional athlete can easily use. Each pedal manufacturer will print out directions on mounting their hardware, that is a hit or miss proposition at best. What the CLĒT Rak will do is mount your cleats, be that Look, Time, or what ever pedal system you prefer, and set the cleats in the correct position for your shoe size. Even if you've had professional help installing your cleats, the CLĒT Rak keeps those same measurements on that next pair of shoes. The positioning will also be kept correct, even if you change pedal types. The pressure point of the cleat will be set correctly related to the ball of your foot, and this tool will accommodate new pedal systems that may come on the market in the future.

 We have a local company working with us to get the tool produced and shipped within a two month time frame, once the project has been funded and keeping the tool locally made. Below is a brief breakdown how the funds will be applied.
