HEART GRENADE (16mm color, 25 min.) is a hybrid narrative / dance short, directed by Hanul Bahm and executive produced by Guy Maddin. The film is a cinematic and choreographic interpretation of Pharoah Sanders' jazz instrumental, "Let Us Go Into the House of the Lord."

The film traces the waking and dream life a counter worker at a 24 hour Los Angeles donut shop, and the night creatures he serves: transgendered sex workers, a cab driver, day laborers, etc. Each encounter shifts him this particular night. Exhausted, he gets off of work and boards a bus to go home. On the bus, he's overtaken by an inner vision. This part is choreographed by Jay Jackson and set in the West Fork of the San Gabriel River.

The Pharoah Sanders song can be found in 3 parts on YouTube. This is the live, 1971 version recorded in Nice, France. Pharoah has granted his personal blessing to interpret his song.
