Hi Michael,
Ok I'll send out monthly updates. I try to keep more frequent postings on the website.
Creator Michael on April 2
Dude Jeff I wish we could at least get an update a month! What's going on with the game?
Creator Jeff LaFlam on February 27
Thanks Jonathon. I keep plugging away.
Creator Jonathan Szostak on February 27
Thanks for the latest update! I'm excited about playing the final version!
Creator Jeff LaFlam on November 25
Hi John, Things are progressing, slow as it may be. I'm waiting on the final pieces of art for the graveyard/highscore screen. Waiting on art seems to be the story of my life. The PC version is literally days away.
Creator John Falcon on November 20, 2012
I have so many projects "in the can" that I'm actually forgeting about some of them, so I thought I would make the rounds and ask how things are progressing?
Creator Alexandre MANGIN on May 21, 2012
Yes, as Archon wrote, I sympathise too. And the demo is great. Wonderful job, both ludically and esthetically.
Creator Archon - Obsidian Order Illusive Man on May 12, 2012
Deepest sympathy on the loss of your Grandma Jeff.
Hope we'll hear from you soon.
Creator Alexandre MANGIN on May 11, 2012
Congratulations! I have a question. Will there be a portrait of the player in game? If so, it would be much appreciated if it were possible to have custom portraits (to be able to upload your own portrait). Thanks in advance for your reply.
Creator Francis Cermak on May 11, 2012
Congrats! So glad this got funded.
Creator ezryder914 on May 11, 2012
Congrats Jeff! :)
Creator Anonymous on May 11, 2012
Glad the goal was met. Should be a great game, judging by the beta. And Mom's are cool! The main thing is this game will get developed and it deserves to be developed.
Creator Archon - Obsidian Order Illusive Man on May 10, 2012
I'm glad I catched this project before it's too late. Looks great and fun !
Creator Max Saltonstall on May 10, 2012
Please do include a Mac version as soon as possible. I'd love to try a Mac demo, and play the hell out of this as I am a big fan of Puzzle Quest and other hybrid games in that vein.
Happy to see more deep strategy enter puzzle-match-rpg titles.

@Espen which challenge cards? Lightning? you have to match those bolt tiles. And the rewards you get are experience points with some being higher multipled than others. Lefi explained the traps. I have only seen traps with two matches needed but yeah they have to be back to back or you do over. The ring item can expose what you need to do for traps and all other hidden stats like monster weakness. Other challenge cards help you craft things - you can pick sword or shield then match the rest - sometimes you have to recheck the tooltip since it will progress - also I think the witch can damage you in ways too, that one is a little sporadic but easy to get rid of
Creator Espen Gätzschmann on May 9, 2012
Unisus: This has been answered multiple times below. Yes, the game will of course allow you to save.
Creator Unisus on May 9, 2012
After restarting my pc after a necessary shutdown i just wanted to ask - will the finished game have a save function? I'd really like to play only a couple of hours each day ;)
Creator Espen Gätzschmann on May 9, 2012
Aha... though I can't recall ever taking damage from a trap that was out almost my entire game yesterday.
Creator Levi Watts on May 9, 2012
@Espen: From what I can gather about the trap cards is they have 2 to 4 objectives. Gather the right element rune and the first objective lights up. You now have the opportunity to find out the next objective, but should you match the wrong one, you trigger the trap and have to start over from the top. The first objective going transparent shows that you have to start over, but you still remember what the objective was.
Creator Espen Gätzschmann on May 9, 2012
longbeach, almost all of the things you mentioned in your post I'm already aware of. What I'm confused about is mostly how the challenge cards work. Some, like monsters are halfway obvious (but I can't figure out the pattern for when and how often they deal damage), but stuff like traps and various other cards I can't even identify are way, way more confusing. The tooltips are often not very helpful right now, but I understand they're being worked on. Still, I'm not expecting to understand everything at this point when not having access to a finished tooltip system nor a help file. :)
Creator Atarun on May 9, 2012
It'd only be cheating if the creator himself backed his own project, because that would mean he hasn't really committed fully to his own project from the start.
There is obviously no such issue here. Jeff LaFlam is clearly 200% committed to Match and Magic.
(Full disclosure: we are neither relatives, nor friends, I'm only judging by the pitch video, text descriptions and the demo ;)
Creator Michelle Gosse on May 9, 2012
Yes, given that anyone can become a backer, it's hardly cheating. Plus, we get a game that we all want. Win-win. :)
Creator DarthDavy - Weresheep of Sin on May 9, 2012
I don't know if it's cheating. Parents always back their children financially. And I think a lot of the kickstart projects large pledgers are personal friends or family from the creators of the project. Anyway, I'm glad she did, because this game deserves to be finished.
Creator Jeff LaFlam on May 9, 2012
lol...watch out Big Mama is gonna be tough. :-)
Creator Sooty on May 9, 2012
Moms are the best!
Creator Atarun on May 8, 2012
So we'll have the privilege of fighting your mom in the game?
I mean the boss she will design?
Sounds awesome. ^^
Creator longbeach on May 8, 2012
@ Espen, I wrote some tips down the list of comments - not everything but more of a survival guide. Try to use spells when they are up top since you have to pay 20 to bring them back to play from your pool and that can make you broke fast.
Creator Espen Gätzschmann on May 8, 2012
Just gave the demo another go. It's tremendously satisfying to be at the brink of death, only to climb back up to power with a few deft moves (and a slight amount of luck). It's very good to know that this Kickstarter has succeeded now, even if it halfway cheated. ;) Can't wait to see how the game progresses. Now if only there was some documentation. I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do to deal with half the cards I receive as challenges.
Creator Levi Watts on May 8, 2012
That sure gives new meaning to a mother buying her son a video game. ^.^
Creator McDude on May 8, 2012
Mom's rock the house!! Better give her a big hug and kisses for Mother's day.
Creator longbeach on May 8, 2012
Parents = The Original Kickstarters :) hope you are doing well
Creator Jeff LaFlam on May 8, 2012
Hi guys,
Sorry I've been a bit quiet lately we had a death in the family so I've been dealing with that. I want to assure you that I did not pitch in the big chunk of money but I found out who did. My mom did. She surprised me and I can't thank her enough (love you mom!). Thank you all for your kind backings and words.
Creator longbeach on May 8, 2012
@ Espen, yeah a little fishy. I mean if they knew they had an angel investor (or something more insidious) just to get $5,000 that doesn't really add up. I do love the game but questions abound on this one.. 0.o
Creator Espen Gätzschmann on May 8, 2012
I could have sworn this game had about $5200 in total backing just a few hours ago. Looks like the new $5000 backer actually went way above the reward level and backed almost $10,000. To whoever you are: Thank you! :)
Creator Atarun on May 8, 2012
I was losing hope for this project... I turn around and... Funded??
Couldn't ask for better news to start the day. :D
Creator DarthDavy - Weresheep of Sin on May 8, 2012
I still don't understand why this doesn't have at least 1000 backers. It's a safe investment which costs you only 10 bucks to get the game, which is already finished and playable (everyone can download it from the site). Game just needs polish. And it's a very interesting take on the classic bejeweled gameplay. Ah well, I'm happy to see it funded.
Creator Michelle Gosse on May 8, 2012
@Davy yes, and I am so pleased to see this funded. :)
Creator DarthDavy - Weresheep of Sin on May 8, 2012
Woooo, goal reached! Thansk to the 5k backer!
Creator longbeach on May 7, 2012
Sooty - i still dont understand what you think the price problem is? too high or too low? how can it go lower than 10? I think 30 is solid for everything he has planned. I am in for $80
Creator Sooty on May 7, 2012
longbeach I apologize if my suggestion annoyed you. I was just wondering out loud what was preventing this campaign was gaining traction, given the popularity of the Puzzle Quest games (it baffles me that less than 200 people have backed this so far). Pricing is not the only issue of course, and I understand why it might be a sensitive topic, because you quite obviously think a game's price reflects how good it is, which shouldn't be the case at all.
That said, this campaign probably isn't reaching enough eyes. I only found out about this because the makers of Solium Infernum (cryptic comet) made a blog post about it. And that's a helluva niche game!
Creator longbeach on May 6, 2012
Do you mean it should cost more?? I think so - should of been $30
Creator Sooty on May 6, 2012
This is really addictive, I managed to get to a point in the demo where I was able to go on seemingly forever. What I'm wondering if the base pricing of the game is a little off, leading to not enough pledgers.
Creator longbeach on May 4, 2012
Upped my pledge to the weapon naming level - hope this can catch fire next week.. surely the puzzle quest crowd would eat this up.. but are they scattered in the realm? Is it bad form to post on their forums? Since they released so much now, they might not mind ?
Creator DarthDavy - Weresheep of Sin on May 3, 2012
Oh man, this game is great! Such a shame only 1/3 is funded yet.
Creator shane on May 3, 2012
I want more gold!
Creator longbeach on May 3, 2012
For those curious about the demo here are some tips in addition to Jeff's video
Chaos tile is the one with the little arrow - it doesn't move, you have to move the target to it. This is the main reason to shift the direction of tiles.
If you get Lost or Compass broken, don't worry about it. Keep your money to cast lockpicks. Trying to disarm a trap is the most disruptive to your plans and ignoring it will hurt you the most.
The Shaman is the probably the nastiest monster you will deal with. The one that rotates his weakness can be a pain too. Make sure to get rid of them asap even if you have to ignore other monsters
The curses that the shaman throws at you do not seem to do anything bad. I see a red bottle pop up sometimes by your score but nothing really happens and I have removed 3 curses in a row and never seen anything bad
Try to keep all your attackers weaknesses the same. Use those cards to change them - even the one that changes all the time. You have to inflict damage as much as you can so switch their weakness and use those change a tile cards to make matches and keep doing damage (remember putting the card in play doesn't activate it.. you then have to click the card to at the top to activate)
Use Freeze a lot when you are running out of money. That way you can focus on 4 and 5 of a kinds to get money without having to worry about damage.. try to wait till all 5 card spots are full before using freeze.. but not if you are getting hammered.
use those element health cards when the board looks stagnant.. that gives you health and a reshuffle
also, you can use the sword/element attacks even if it isn't the same element as the monster's weakness and do damage
When you level up, always pick higher health total if available.. the cost of full health bottles do not change so once you health limit is high that is the best bang for bucks
when you see the treasure bags near each other then match them.. not worth it to spend too much effort, especially early, but you can get some nice items out of the chests.. crafting cards can be quick damage from swords and nice boosts from health as well.. they are pretty easy to clear as well.
there are a few more things to figure out but that is the main stuff to keep you alive and you can play as many levels you can stay awake for
Creator longbeach on May 3, 2012
actually 2nd time playing you can stretch your mony pretty well.. use freeze adn then just rack up for money and go back and forth.. got to level 16 and dozed off could of played forever
Creator longbeach on May 3, 2012
any puzzle quest vet should be able to figure out the demo with some trial and error. Some suggestions: When you can't play a card into your hand, a box should tell you why. either no money or whatever reason. Also, the money system is outta wack. paying 20 to play cards isnt balanced compared to how much you can earn. You stay broke most of the game. I went all the way to level 12 on my first game but only bought 3 or 4 items the whole game. The rest went to playing cards. Also, the defense and attack values didnt seem to do a whole lot when leveling up. The best is to just up your HP as much as possible. The demo does hit a wall at around level 12 so I doubt anyone can go much higher than that.
Would be nice to see the outside of battle gameplay
