I used to live in Los Angeles. While most people don't think of that city as particularly green, when people ask me if I miss Los Angeles, I say I don't miss the city but I miss the location. I miss a mountain range bi-secting the urban density; I miss hiking in the Sierras and climbing in Joshua Tree.
I now live in New York. I love this city and would miss it if I left. However now it's a much bigger ordeal to get outside of the city and into nature.
Every time I stay in on a Friday night, drag my ass out of bed early the next morning to catch a Metro North to a spot where I can hike off into the woods, I am tremendously glad I did.
Green space is what the soul breathes. And North Brooklyn doesn't have nearly enough of it. Thank you for your vision, your project, and enhancing the quality of life in our wonderful little corner of Brooklyn.

To me, Nature should be the least intimidating place for a person to go to or for people to come together at, and a future that eliminates greenspaces I believe threatens that. From observation people fear the unknown and if natural spaces become the unknown people will become fearful of the beautiful world around them waiting to be discovered.
:) From Michigan, but I was fortunate enough to have an internship in Chicago at the ReBuilding Exchange, an awesome organization that turns 'waste' into opportunity. They focus in building material reuse. If there is a similar organization in your area I bet they would have a ton of awesome material to help build with. Or if you feel like road tripping to Chicago they always love helping out fellow visionaries.
:) Thanks for the inspiration, and I just got a new reason to make it back out to Brooklyn.

As a Native New Yorker (Born in NYC), I feel a connection with the land beneath the concrete that surrounds our metropolitan civilization. As a horticulturalist I envision the potential that every square foot of land has for functional, and aesthetic performance. I'm excited for this project because it has the potential to Ideally support Optimistic Life, Egalitarian Domains, Facilitative Kindgoms, Harmonious Phylums, Loving Classes, Peaceful Orders, Virtuous Families, Creative Genus, and individual Species from out of this barren lot. Everyone interested should contribute, and support this evolution of Greenpoint habitats.

As a teacher and a mom I know how important it is for children to experience the joy of making things grow. Children who can help grow food experience a sense of wonder and reconnect to nature. They also learn first hand that they have some control over their lives. They can choose to make a space beautiful and to live a healthier lifestyle. I would love to come to NY and help with this project.
