Cast and Crew Screening Party!

Update #16 · Feb 9, 2013 · 1 comment
We are pleased to announce that Silk is done!

We have, wrapped, locked, scored, mixed, colored, compressed and delivered. Sometimes we even did it twice.

What an amazing opportunity for all of us. As a backer to this project, you gave a lot of people a great learning experience. Me namely! I loved directing this film. It was a challenge and I made a lot of mistakes. But hopefully I made the right mistakes ...I sure learned a lot!

If you donated $100 or more and would like to attend our cast and crew party, on March 7th at The American Film Institute, let us know by responding to this update . We wish we could invite everybody, but seating in the AFI theater is limited.

In the future, check out and  "like" our SILK Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/SilkTheMovie or go to our website,WWW.SILK-theMovie.com for ongoing updates. We have already been accepted to a number of film festivals and will be announcing which ones very soon. If we are screening in your home town, let us know so we can thank you in person, and hopefully get you a ticket!

I can't believe its done. What a great year this has been. Thank you, thank you for all of your donations and continued support.

With much appreciation and gratitude, Catherine

Whew!....Picture Lock!

Update #15 · Oct 26, 2012 · comment

"Picture lock" is a stage in post production ------ All changes to the film cut have been done and approved. It is then sent to subsequent stages in the process, such as online editing and audio mixing.

I am pleased to write you, our backers , to announce with excitement (and exhaustion) that we have "picture locked" SILK.

It's hard to believe three months have passed since we wrapped shooting. Where has the time gone??  Many many hours in editing, a few weeks off for summer vacation, a quick trip up to Portland to guest star in the season finale of LEVERAGE and a lot Mommy hours needed to get sweet Oliver off to first grade!

And now we begin the next phase of post production. I am thrilled to be working with a super talented sound team. We meet tomorrow to discuss sound effects, music cues and score.

Writing, Producing and Directing SILK has been thrilling, challenging and creatively fulfilling.....My only hope is that the film itself embodies the overall fantastic experience I and, I believe, my entire cast and crew had.

And once again, I want to acknowledge your generosity. We could not have done it without you...Kickstarter was an invaluable resource for us. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

I have attached a few movie stills----you can see where your money went! Oliver visited the set a few times....I think we have a director in the making. He told me how a few shots should be done!

Again, so many thanks.

Catherine

It's a wrap!

Update #14 · Jul 10, 2012 · comment

This is the letter I wrote to my incredible team. I wanted to share it with you, our backer, so that you too could join in the celebration of a job well done! We could not have done it without your help! Continued Thanks!!!

Dear Cast and Crew of SILK (or should I say "Dear SILK-Makers" )
It is with the deepest gratitude I write this morning to thank you for all the work you did to make our film possible.
As our brilliant lead actress, Shohreh, said it truly was a "labor of love."
There are so many people I want to single out, so many moments I want to remember, so many hours I want to relive.....and now, we will have a beautiful film to memorialize our shared experience.
Everybody worked tirelessly for little to nothing in return, and for that I will forever be grateful. I wish I had a million dollars to pay you all...in my heart I am writing those checks!!!!
I have worked on hundreds of sets and seen thousands of people come and go in the business.....Our set, the set of SILK, was as grounded and dedicated as any set, big or small, I have ever been on.
Yes....working conditions could have been cushier...but goodness knows Gary-Crafty's Popsicles and coffee coolers helped buffer the heat  and cramped quarters!!
I had so much fun....as one might be able to tell by the photographs captured by out fantastic photographer Christopher. I don't remember kicking my leg up in glee so many times, but clearly I was having a good time. : )
The time and effort each and everyone of you put into SILK was astonishing. And I think we can all agree the love and commitment that the entire cast brought to work everyday---the unbridled love of the work---made all of us feel we were engaged in something very special. "Very special ! " as the delightful David Diaan playing Sameer would say.
At some point we will have a wrap/ viewing party....you and a guest will come and we will together toast the dedication and hard work of this extraordinary collective...
----This talented, loving, generous and vivacious team.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. There is not a single one of you I would not feel honored and lucky to have on my next project....if the path takes me there, I hope you will be with me.
Since I cannot single everyone out here...know that I am keenly aware of the specific jobs each and every one of you did---- Costumes and make-up; sets and transportation...gaffers and grips, Pa's and UPM's, camera and catering......
And when I see you again, I will tell you what I witnessed.
It was all good. : )
Many many thanks
wow---my first directing experience
If it gets any better, I might explode!!!!
Much love to you all,
Catherine
