A Iraq war veteran turned drug addict must fight drug dealers and corrupt cops to live through the night.
"The gritty tormented spin in the worlds that Grillo creates is unmistakably his. After reading some of his work for the first time I came away a little disturbed and a bit shocked." - StashMyComics.com
What is This?
I’m not sure if you could consider War Zone a comic book. It’s a story about Johnny, an ex-marine that is suffering from post traumatic stress and has become a methamphetamine addict. He and his best friend Ray get involved in a drug deal gone bad and Johnny barely makes it out alive. The incident triggers an outbreak with his post traumatic stress and Johnny begins to hear voices telling him to seek revenge on the drug dealers and the corrupt cops of the town. He tries not to listen but they begin to take control.
Not exactly the kind of story you think about when you think of comic books, is it?
You can download a PDF of the first 14 pages for free here.
"As the story merges with the art you get the sense that a world won by war can only give you an addiction to peace. That peace of course comes with a price, one that can only be paid in blood.
Take a look at War Zone and I am sure you will find, as I did, that blood fallen on sand leaves an open wound everywhere else." - The Pope http://dapopeface.blogspot.com/
Expert Comics covered War Zone and the Kickstarter. Read it here.
The first comic is already done and you can get a copy by backing this project for $1. The money from this kickstarter will be used to pay for the penciler, inker, colorist, letterer and printing costs to finish this 3 issue mini series. The costs to finish the remaining 2 comics will be over $2.000 but I'm okay with paying for that myself. However, it would be awesome if we went beyond our goal.
I’ve tried to include as many cool rewards as possible. Many of these rewards involve other comics I've made. You can read pages from these comics (including War Zone) here www.facebook.com/BleedingInkComics
A review of War Zone-
"This book is such a powerful story you would believe it could have been a true story up until the end of this issue. It's so perfectly written, I truly felt for the characters. The suffering they go through after their service to the armed forces, I know that a lot of people will relate to this kind of pain. Honestly I think that Jesse Grillo has written a brilliantly crafted story, that is full of everything people want in a comic. The art is amazing, really I think David Brame has done an awesome job fitting the art to the dark, gritty feel this story is trying to portray. The colors by Heather Breckel really adds to the intense feeling you get when reading it!"- http://jaybwebb.wordpress.com/
"War Zone reminds me a great deal of Jason Aaron's Scalped (and also sports clear echoes of Sensory Distortion), as veterans of the Afghanistan War found themselves back home and trying to make sense of their lives, which have degenerated into unfortunate relationships with drugs and those who provide them. The lead character is Johnny, who becomes charged with a mission of vengeance that puts him right back into, you guessed it, the War Zone." - Comics Fan Companion

"There’s no single theme in the World of Bleeding Ink but rather a hard-edged world view of a reality not dissimilar from ours that just happens to be populated by Super powered teens, killer robots or Superheroes. It’s our world but just that little bit stranger & just that little bit darker."- webstoodstupid.com

I'll get a tattoo of whatever you want on my body.It can be a company logo, your face or something discussing. I don't care. It can't be that big 3x3 inches is ideal and I would like it to be on my legs, back or arms but I'm open to talk about it. I will keep the tattoo on me for at least 5 years. I'll pay for the tattoo unless you want it to look really good then you might have to pay for some of it. I've never had a tattoo and I'm kind of scared of needles but I am dedicated to getting this comic produced. The thought of getting this done is a small price to pay.Estimated delivery: Jul 2012
