About this project

“The derivative information of the second-rate copyist is far from independent of what has gone before. Thus the conventional love story, the conventional detective story, the average acceptable success tale of the slicks, all are subject to the letter but not the spirit of the law of copyright. There is no form of copyright law that prevents a movie success from being followed by a stream of inferior pictures exploiting the second and third layers of the public’s interest in the same emotional situation… I repeat, the prevalence of cliches is no accident, but inherent in the nature of information.” – Norbert Wiener

This project started after my wife and I bought a house. I was looking at all the wooden slat fencing in my neighborhood and thought that I should start tagging it. But instead of tagging it in an obvious manner (you know spray-painting a couple of eyes and a mustache on every fence in my neighborhood), I photographed the fence, had multiple prints made and taped cutout shapes of the photos to the fence to photograph… the tag is a virtual tag since it is captured in camera and is shared as a photograph onscreen. I saw this act as my signature… my proper tag.

For the next stage in this project, I'd like to start tagging on a larger scale. To do this I will need to start spending more money on photographic prints and self-adhesive printed material. Additionally, it is likely that I will have to hire assistants and installers and will have to travel... this is where your contribution comes in.

Eventually, I'd like to tag on a scale of massive proportions (like Grand Canyon massive), but that's some time off from the present. For now, I'm content to step it up just a little from what I'm already doing.

Hopefully, you'll be willing to contribute a few dollars to the project...
