About this project

The Deconstructive Theatre Project is a four-year-old not-for-profit performance laboratory. "The Orpheus Variations" is our largest project to date - creatively and financially - and our first major production based in New York City. To make it a reality, we absolutely need your help.

The project is multidisciplinary in nature, utilizing aerial silk choreography by Nicki Miller (http://nickimiller.wordpress.com/); interactive projection installations; an original rock score composed and performed by NYC-based rock band, The Shivers (http://www.myspace.com/shiversnyc); and a theatrical world designed by Kae Burke, Liz Duffy (http://lizduffyart.com), and Ross Graham (http://www.rossgrahamdesign.com). The three performers: Chris Carpenter (as Orpheus), Zenzele Cooper (as Persephone), and Kendall Rileigh (as Eurydice) will collaboratively create their characters utilizing self-scripting and physical theatre devising techniques. The production is directed by DTP Founding Director Adam J. Thompson (http://www.adamjthompson.net).

Making magic this grand is expensive.

"The Orpheus Variations" has been in development for nearly two years, and the opportunity to stage this world premiere is really exiting for us. To support high production values, rent rehearsal and theatre space, buy aerial equipment, acquire and install projectors, and most importantly - compensate our artists for their time and talent, we need your financial support. It's a community effort.

We need to raise $4,000 to bring scenes from "The Orpheus Variations" to life on August 31 and September 1 toward the full world premiere later this year. Bookmark our Kickstarter page and visit often because that video right above this box is going to change often. If you're a friend of one of the artists involved, chances are you'll catch an interview with him or her, see some design work, or catch a rehearsal clip.

Over there on your right, you'll see a list of incentives we've lined up to help thank you for bringing the Underworld to life. If that's not enough to convince you, note that your gift is totally tax-deductible; and if *that's* not enough to convince you, come have dinner with us and we'll change your mind. :)

Thanks for your love. It means the (Under)world.

The Deconstructive Theatre Project is a four-year-old not-for-profit arts and culture organization with a mission to create original theatrical performance work that is collaborative in nature. The company investigates the ways in which performance vocabularies communicate both with one another and with an audience, and how the vocabularies of other art forms can be utilized to create immediacy in performance.
