Projecteo Progress
Hello everyone.
I hope this finds you well and you had a lovely weekend.
It's exciting times at Projecteo HQ. We received samples last week and are now in the process of ironing out the final minor details.
These details are to do with the two main moving parts of Projecteo: the button and the focusing barrel. As these are the things you're going to be interacting with the most, we want to get them absolutely right.
To do this for these two tiny parts, we had two variations of each part 3D printed.
Each one had a slight variation in it's diameter - of about 0.05mm.
This is just enough of a difference to affect the action of the barrel and the button in a subtle but important way.
We then placed each of the new Prints into the device (like you see above) and asked a testing group of friends, family and Mint employees which one they preferred. When they had decided, the winning piece got a mark on it's base as an indication of preference.
It turned out that the larger of each diameters were preferred by the vast majority of the testers.
Therefore the barrel should now have a nice smooth roll to it and the button a satisfying and solid 'click'.
The factory have now made these adjustments and will be sending off final samples today.
These samples will be with us by Friday 8th March.
I have very kindly been asked to show and talk about Projecteo at SXSW festival in Austin on Saturday the 9th March. Therefore most of these new samples will be sent to the US for me to pick up at the hotel. I'll review the final samples from there. If all is well, we'll start mass production of the units. This means we should be ready to open the image picking website and have the first batch of Projecteos in New York around mid-late March with a view to sending out the first units at the start of April.
If anyone is going to SXSW or will be in Austin between the 10th and the 12th March, I'd be more than happy to meet up and show you the samples.
As always, drop me a line if you have any questions and have an awesome day.
