New Instagram Terms of Service
Hey everyone,
Many of you have been asking about how Projecteo will be affected by the changes to Instagram’s Terms of Service. If you haven't read them and would like to, you can find them here:
http://instagram.com/legal/terms/
From both a professional and personal perspective, I'm aware and concerned about these issues and am thinking about how to address them.
Essentially, our backers - you - are the most important thing to us. We want to make sure we deliver the best and most enjoyable experience to you, regardless of external factors. If that means looking into an alternative means for selecting your photos, that’s what we’ll do.
Facebook - who own Instagram - are yet to formally respond to the recent changes. We will be able to make a better informed decision based on that response.
In other, possibly more exciting news:
14 HOURS LEFT AND OVER EIGHTY SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS RAISED!!!
Thank you very much for everything so far. We can't wait to get Projecteo into your hands.

Came back to add: even though Instagram reverted the controversial change, I'd still _really_ like to see another mechanism for ordering picture wheels.
Creator Ashley Esqueda on December 19
Super happy I pledged my support; it's an awesome project and I was excited about it the second I saw it.
Unfortunately, as of yesterday, I terminated my Instagram account. While I understand they backpedaled on their TOS, the reality is that I'm not comfortable with a company who's policy is to aggressively change privacy terms and then claim it was all a "misunderstanding" and "poorly worded." Basically, Instagram got caught and quickly responded. While that's okay for some people, it's not enough for me, and I'm wary of doing business with companies who do that (they are a lot like their parent company Facebook in this regard, which I also do not use personally).
I hope that with the extra backer money raised, you are able to provide non-Instagram users a web interface to upload pictures and order wheels. If not, I'm going to have a very cute little paperweight in my house.
I'm still happy to give you my money, though. :)

Congratulations guys!!!!
Creator aisbaby on December 19
that being said, I LOVE this project :) Backing it up either way!

I don't see why the developers can't just create an alternative app that lets us upload photos STRAIGHT from our library... maybe I'm missing something, but you don't really need instagram as a platform to be able to take great photos of the same effect. I don't really use instagram but I do have the app. Most of these apps enable you to directly save your photos to your library.... and upload them again from ur phone... same principle.
Projecteo just needs to create another platform for its users to be able to FREELY upload photos (to create a desired wheel) straight from their phones' library or computer.
Creator Mirko Maurice on December 19
Hi, I think this project(eo) was to great to fail about instagram.
Hope you will make it possible to create wheels by other ways, too.
There are so many other possibilities to make some great, funny, crazy, art-looking, etc, pictures than with ig. KitCam, Hipstamatic, Snapseed, etc.
Hope you will think about it ;-)
Thanx and warm regards from Lake of Constance

Hi guys. I'm a bit disappointed in those of you who have cancelled their pledge as a result of the changes to the IG terms. First of all, it's not the guys at projecteos fault so why are you punishing them? Second of all, I am quite surprised in this day and age that people are surprised that IG wanted to monetize their site at some stage. I'm an entrepreneur myself (website is www.artfido.com) and our site remains free but we are not kidding ourselves that we will be able to be free forever. It costs a lot of money to provide the service that IG does (think about storage costs alone - they must be huge!) and they have millions of users to service. It's how and what these companies do when they roll out monetization which is important, and I think that IG has realised pretty quickly that if they don't work out the magic formula quick smart they are going to lose a hell of a lot of users. Still, this is not projecteo's fault and they still remain at the top of most of our "why didn't I think if that?" list. Give IG a chance, and let the guys at projecteo come up with the necessary work arounds for their customers too. Just remember they're not out to screw their customers over and will do whatever they can to ensure customer satisfaction as we're central to the success and failure of their business.
Creator Susan Juliet McIntire on December 19
Like the others, I have confidence that you'll be able to find another way for us to upload our pics. I will be deleting my IG account just before the new terms go into effect. Their intent is still to use our photos in a way to make them money no matter how much they try to gloss it over and backtrack. I would rather have paid an upfront fee than have my personal info. or that of my friends used to piggyback ads onto. I will also be deleting as much as possible from FB and switching over to the New My Space for which I'm a beta member. I have a Flickr account so could upload some pics there for you to use. For those that want to read more, just check out the CNET article.
Creator Astraea on December 19
+1 for an alternative as well, if it's possible! And, another +1 for Flickr, since I personally use Flickr and see that others here also use it.
Creator Max power on December 18
Flickr please, I really do not want to use instagram.
Creator Jeffrey B George on December 18
I'd be really surprised if the Terms of Service isn't reworded in the next day or two. Of course, if it isn't, well I'll be drop the service. I wish there was something better than Facebook as well, Google+ hasn't won me over.
Creator AGN1964 on December 18
Whatever. I've never taken a photo that's good enough for instagram to sell. I'll go with the flow.
Creator Protium on December 18
Yes I agree please find another way it upload photos. I deleted my Instagram account. I will upload enough photos for my first wheel but I feel unhappy about the policy change. It will make me less licky to order more wheels.
Creator Jessica Bell on December 18
Another vote for Flickr, please!
Creator Tiffany Chin on December 18
I just found pear: http://sharewithpear.com/
It seems pretty fun.
Creator Amy Sanders on December 18
I would be thrilled if you'd open it to Flickr. Most of my instagram friends are getting active on that platform again. http://www.flickr.com/services/api/
Creator Helena on December 18
Sorry dude. But instagram just committed suicide for me.
Creator raven erebus on December 18
I would really like to avoid instagram. I don't currently use it, or facebook. And I would frankly be quite cranky if I had to sign up for either to upload images. I also didn't realize that it was tied into your upload system. Flickr is nice and allows 3rd party apps! :)
Creator GW on December 18
Please have other ways to upload other than Instagram. I did not realize this was the only way to upload when I Pledged. I would not be able to use your cool projector unless
I can send another way.
Creator terry on December 18
whats instagram ?

I am also curious, like Byteguy, as to what is concerning you. I read through the new terms of use and they seemed pretty normal to me. Why are some of you deleting your Instagram accounts? What am I missing here?
Creator benjamin wallisch on December 18
I agree with all the above comments about opening the photo platform to other services. The concept of Projecteo piqued my interest in kickstarter and this project in general. I joined Instagram just as a means to upload photos and I always expected that when this project became successful, that other options would become available. I suggest Shutterfly or Flickr.
Creator erin herridge on December 18
Please do consider non-Instagram options. I guess I didn't do my reading before pledging, I had just assumed that any square photo would be an option. I am a Hipstamatic user, myself. You have a great idea, I would hate for it to be hobbled by decisions made at a company you can't control.
Creator Gerry Scullion on December 18
I don't think your idea is uniquely tied to Instagram, so with respect to the recent changes with Instagram, may just mean that there's multiple user options to upload from.
It's not ideal, but at least gives users the option.
I know for me personally, I'm not convinced FB will see through these changes just yet. But they've definitely made it clear where they'd like to take it.
Keep up the great work!
Creator Kevin M. Scarbrough on December 18
I'm deleting my Instagram account but keeping my pledge active.
I have full confidence that if you can build this mightily awesome projector, you can figure out a way for me to upload my photos into a thing that makes it work.
I appreciate this will take longer than expected, I don't mind waiting. Projecto for life.
Creator Fabian Raygosa on December 18
Also to clarify on my last post, im not attacking any posters here ... just the wave of fear that seems to have come from instagram.
They need to make money too right?
Creator Dan Knauss on December 18
I'd like to keep supporting this project and be able to use projecteo, but my wife and I are deleting our Instagram accounts today.
Creator Fabian Raygosa on December 18
I guess I am not a security paranoid at most. So what about their rules change. Seriously. Practically every free service does something like this in one form or another. Dont like it it dont use it. Honestly, you are uploading photos to the internet, how can you expect any degree of 100% security? I'll probably limit the amount of personal photos I put on instagram but its all good. I dont mean to sound too abrasive, but to hear folks complain about privacy on the internet free services ... talk about laced with danger.
Anyways I also agree with everyone else. Why not have an app that is versitile to connect to other photo services. Nothing wrong with getting my flickr photos (after cropping) and adding them to my projecteo wheel!!!!
Creator Drew Bakke on December 18
I appreciate that you are at least looking into alternates. I came on this morning to cancel my backing. I decided against it since I want the Projecteo so much, but I really would prefer going through a different means.
Creator Byteguy on December 18
For those of us a bit dense (which, could just be me) what parts of the new rules concern you? Is it content limits (#2) or API access (#9) or both or ?
Personally, I vote with Matt. I don't post to Instagram for anything and re-activated my account JUST so I would be ready for Projecteo.
Creator Michael Stevenson on December 18
I very much agree with the previous two messages. I don't use Instagram and would far prefer to just upload photos directly.
I suspect that your enthusiastic backers will be willing to adapt to a new system of upload, as I think we are more stoked about the Projecteo than the Instagram.
Thanks for having this space to offer comments during the development process.
Creator Olga Nunes on December 18
+1 to what Matthew said! I would love to be able to upload any photos.
Creator Matthew Miller on December 18
Yes please to an alternate means of uploading photos. While the Instagram connection is a nice "hook" for this product, there's no real reason it can't work with any square-format digital photos, is there?
