It seems to me like you will be making this game regardless of Kickstarter success. Well, you have the buck to spare, and a loss of a few millions won't hurt you that much. (Much less than your delusions).
What I am concerned about is Benjamin Walsh who doesn't look like someone to fit into "MMORPG project lead" role (has no background in MMORPG).
And yeah, there's no "outside of this environment"-thing. Either the Internet gives a sh*t, in which case KS explodes, or it doesn't and all you get is a hundred bogus backers. For reference see Wasteland 2 and DF Adventure.
Creator øåååååøø on April 21, 2012
Read this comment on twitter:
@marckus Our CEO, Ben Walsh is going to consult with Your World to help them create a realistic project plan.
one more time "a realistic project plan."
if he is not a scumbag that sees you as a money bag he will tell you were the score is.
so he has to tell you, you have to cut like 80% of content that you have. He has to tell you, that you cant do press or promote the game in any way (lets face it the kikkstarer has been a disaster). He is going to tell you, the game will not be done inn least 2 years (probably much more). He will have to tell you how few mmo actually make a profit or even gets made.
Even though it seem i am horrible to you, i am trying to do you a favor.
start a game company make small games, try to make the foundations so you can make the mmo you want.
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 21, 2012
Oh and I forgot to mention the checks that were sent to the pizza shop I own. Which I had to send back, because they made them out to Bunky Bartlett and not Your World Inc.
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 21, 2012
Michael if you read the posts and updates and the executive summary you will see I am working with Benjamin Walsh. He currently has a team and they will be working on the up coming content. They will also be working on the game itself once it is funded. They are very excited about it. I've stated a number of times he will be the project lead on this game.
What you also don't see are the private emails here on kickstarter, and personal to my main email address, facebook, twitter, youtube, and ustream. Not to mention the ones from the website contact me page as well. So though this page has only generated 104 backers at the moment it has generated much more then that outside of this environment. It has also generated enough income outside of kickstarter to pay for the up coming content. Which costs more then what was raised here so far.
What investors are looking at are the numbers in the executive summary and are they feasible. If you look at the projected sales they are very feasible. To prove that point we have raised outside funding in excess of $25K. Which is also what they want to see. We have budgeted over $1m for advertising for the game, to begin as soon as it is funded. Marketing is another big point investors want to see. We will have a professional ad agency working TV, radio, print and viral markets for the game.
so I hope I have answered all of your questions.
Creator Michael Hafner on April 21, 2012
My sentence got cut off the first post... it should have said "A 35% return on a 2 year investment sounds excellent on paper but looking at all of the information publicly available I see you and about 100 people interested in the project."
Creator Michael Hafner on April 21, 2012
You say you are contracting 3 months of “content” for the game but how can you be doing that before you hire even one permanent team member? What if the content you are contracting doesn’t fit the artistic style of the game, shouldn’t the Art Director or at the very least a Game Designer be guiding this “content” so that it isn’t scrapped when you hire your team “for real”. What is your thought process about this?
Creator Michael Hafner on April 21, 2012
In your Kickstarter FAQ you state that you are using kickstarter to find out if there is interest in your project, does ~100 people prove to yourself that there’s enough interest to make the game a reality? What kind of feedback are you using to determine if this project is greenlighted, a couple of 10k pledges? A 35% return on a 2 year investment sounds excellent on paper but looking at all of the information publicly available (and that’s as much as any of potential investors can do!)

Is that Ben Walsh from Pure Bang by any chance?
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 20, 2012
We won't need server and Networking people. We are using the Hero engine and they provide all of that for us for free until we start making money. I am working with a seasoned developer. His name is Benjamin Walsh. He is mentioned in the executive summary. I was calling users subscribers. Most investors understand that word better then just saying user. The word User has a negative vibe attached to it. So 1, 2, 3a are done already. We will have content in about 3 months. After this is done I'm not doing another Kickstarter unless they change some things. I've contacted them and told them what I have issue with. 4 will happen once game is funded. 5. that is covered in the executive summary.
thank you comments like yours I appreciate.
Creator Jake Cooper on April 20, 2012
I may have to dig into that a little deeper, but it looks as though you're spreading tasks over too many people in places (GUI and icons being listed separately) and not enough in others (Server and Networking / combat systems having only 1 person each). You also mention subscribers, which f2p games don't really have.
Seriously man, you have a few pretty good ideas but you need to sit down with a seasoned developer and have a serious talk over what is and isn't possible. I'm hardly an expert in the glorious field of videogame development (working on my first real project at present) but even I can see that you have some fairly major gaps in your understanding of both current technical limitations and the purposes of many common game mechanics. I don't mean any major disrespect by this, because most people with no experience making games make these mistakes.
This Kickstarter blatantly isn't going to hit it's target now, you're an accountant, you can see that easily. For what it's worth, I'm going to throw in my own $0.02 and give you some basic advice on how to go about getting your game made.
1. Get in touch with a development veteran, discuss your concept and ask for advice on what can be altered to make it feasible. You will likely have to pay for this.
2. Assemble an experienced team or offer to fund a currently existing one while they work on it.
3a. Find investors elsewhere, or cover the costs yourself. I don't mean to be harsh, but you've become a bit of a laughing stock. Four of the forums I frequent have threads ridiculing you, and it's going to be very hard to convince people now, even once you've got solid concept and/or an alpha version.
3b. Alternatively, hire someone to manage the next kickstarter attempt. You'll need a well written proposal, a professional website and someone willing to answer questions and attempt to turn the tide of public opinion through good PR. I'd be willing to do this myself for a reasonable fee if (and only if) points one and two had already been addressed. If you'd prefer someone with a little more experience in this field, I could refer you to someone utterly brilliant, but significantly more expensive than myself.
4. Develop a strong community, taking regular feedback surveys and releasing frequent alpha/beta versions of the game.
5. Expand the operation as necessary (it almost certainly will be), reinvesting as much profit as possible into the project.
Take it or leave it, but that's what you'll need to do if you hope to ever get a reasonably good game made from this concept.
Best of luck (and I really do mean that),
Jake
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 19, 2012
Michael I never really answered your question. The reason people have now invested is the 35% return on investment with a 2 year exit. Its a great investment when you look at what these games can do especially the F2P (Free to Play) games.
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 19, 2012
You need to look at our executive summary for that answer. There are too many positions to answer that question here. You can find it at:
http://www.yourworldinc.com/Exec_Page.php
Creator Jake Cooper on April 19, 2012
How much do you plan to pay each of these people on a yearly basis?
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 19, 2012
Oh and even though we are working on content I still haven't hire anyone yet. I have contracted with a company to produce the content, but I have not hired any employees. Once the game is fully funded we are ready to get out there and start hiring people to work on it. We will need about 75 - 100 people to get the game to launch.
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 19, 2012
Michael: Bad analogy to use with me. I hate 3 piece suit people, so it would be the unshaven pajama wearing gamer I would hire. You have a valid question. The answer is very simple. I'm using funds to produce content. The website is just there to get things going. I've had more people say they like it then have said they don't. So no reason to change it right now. Once we get the funding needed the website will be changed.
As a matter of fact we should have some content to show everyone in about 3 months. I'm waiting to hear back from 1 investor and as soon as I do we start work on the project.
Needless to say after the kickstarter page will be over. So everyone will have to keep an eye on the website for video of the content when it goes up.
Creator Michael Hafner on April 19, 2012
serious, non-troll question: Why would someone invest a large amount of money in your game when you haven't spent any significant amount of your own money first? You have a website up yet the executive summary says you have hired no one as of yet. What kind of message does it sent to potential investors if you are unwilling to spend the extremely small amount of cash it would take to have your proposal website professionally designed? Help me understand. Who are you more likely to hire, the guy who showed up in a three piece suit or the guy who came to the interview unshaven and wearing pajamas?
Creator Mark Willett on April 19, 2012
@Ellwood, you can save this project still, just saying. Hire game designers. We will show you how to make it an attractive game which will be able to flesh out the way you want it to. Of course it would take stages.. we would probably be smart and use the engine that second life uses.. especially since its open source, modify it using stackless python to hold better concurrent connections (EvE Online). We could probably make a modding API and remove the Blenderish aspect by using pre-Fab elements on a drag drop basis.. but hey who am I. Your the idea guy.
Creator Rocketlauncher on April 19, 2012
Silly Atomsk, Your World will use a revolutionary voice synthesis engine powered by the almighty Microsoft Sam. That'll put those pesky voice actors out of the business one and for all! I also think that Your World should include a web browser and a plugin that rate the popularity and the safety of the web pages you visit, deBUNKYing and making those frauds Alexa and WOT completely redundant. One year after launch, a different extension will finish calculating EVERYTHING that IMB's World Community Grid has been doing for the past [whatever] years, thus curing Aids, Cancer and finding alien life forms at once.
Can't wait for this to launch. E. Bartlett for the President... OF THE WORLD!
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 19, 2012
Did you read the section on the website about pvp? PvP will only be allowed if the player is flaged for PvP. So no worries. Yep no voice acting at this time.
Creator Atomsk on April 19, 2012
@ Ellwood: You forgot to click "modding tools", which puts the game at $10,080,000. I found it odd that this wasn't checked off, as modding is ostensibly the premise and draw of the game. It may not be as singularly focused as, say, a Minecraft game, but there's a huge element of customizable terrain and quests that makes me think, on surface value, Neverwinter Nights, which is a single-player RPG. So, not only are you going to have a series of fully fleshed-out worlds, but it's also going to be a fleshed-out world that supports real-time malleable terrain, as well as the ability to write quests, to boot. Glaringly tricky and potential design issues aside (if I'm on a PvP server, what happens if I'm attacked while I'm building out my terrain?), what you're asking for is... you know what, scratch that. What you're asking for isn't even what we would define as a simple modding tool.
Also, no plans for voice acting? Really?

oh and did I mention that that site is made by Clint Bellanger, who should be working on his game. Which is what it says on the bottom of that page. LOL I love when people post things from very creditable sources.

yourgameistoobig Nice. I just put my info in there. Says $5,040,000.00 to build. Lets see our budget is about that. It says: it would take an entry-level game developer 100.8 years to create this game. We won't factor in that we will be using experienced game developers. So lets see divide 100.8 years by 75 programmers/artists/etc (also detailed in our budget) and you get 1.34 years so that is 15 months. We are giving ourselves 18 months until launch. Ok that works. Thanks for the link!

1. It a site trying to sell protection. Its just another business trying to get other businesses to buy its product.
2. Investors could care less about that site.
3. It has had no effect on my website. I have had over 5K hits to the main page in the last 24hrs. So that site has not effect on what I am trying to do.
4. Their instructions don't work , my guess on purpose and want you to buy their protection when it doesn't.
5. So there is not true problem. So nothing to worry about.
Thanks for letting me know about it. Its a non issue.
Creator James White on April 17, 2012
Well, an easy solution would be to come up with a catchier name than "Your World" and move your web site to it.
Creator Raticus on April 17, 2012
"OH well."? Do you realize how that sounds to a potential investor? Beyond the fact that your site comes back as an untrustworthy spambot, if you can't expend the effort to get the site de-listed as such, I don't see how you could be trusted with an investment. If the issue is that you can't manage to do it yourself, or you just don't know how, then you should hire a professional web developer in order to rectify the situation. Otherwise you're really making your project appear as a fly by night operation that will never make it to fruition.
You have to understand that gamers, you know the folks you're hoping will invest and play your game, have been burned by many people with pie in the sky ideas for the next great game. This kind of attitude, that at the first hint of a problem that isn't solved in 10 minutes, you just shrug and say, "OH well," is the kind of thing that makes gamers, and investors, just shrug and look elsewhere to invest their money.
Think about how you would feel if the manager of one of your other enterprises saw an issue that he couldn't fix, and just shrugged and said "OH well." I'd imagine such a person wouldn't be gainfully employed for much longer.
Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 16, 2012
Tried everything on the WOT site and can't get it to verify. OH well.
Creator Samuel on April 16, 2012

Creator Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett on April 16, 2012
Rocketlauncher ok I see. I will check it out. Thanks.
Creator Rocketlauncher on April 16, 2012
What this means is that someone was using the domain "yourworldinc.com" to send spam, most likely years before you purchased it. You can contact WOT through this link to dispute the rating: https://www.mywot.com/en/claim-site… I suggest you do it, considering that WOT is now used by several popular extensions and apps to warn people about malicious content.
NB: I judge the value of this comment as $1,000,000 (one million united states dollars) and sincerely hope that it'll get me a nice mansion in your next game.
