About this project
UPDATE:
The UHaul Festival is happening this Friday, Sept 2nd, from 5:30 till 9pm. Shuttles leave from the IGCA about every 30 min.
ABOUT:
Imagine a fleet of UHaul trucks, their trailers converted into art galleries, music venues, performance spaces. Maybe a giant pinball machine?
Imagine these UHaul trucks all in one secret place, for one night.
And the only way to get to this UHaul festival is to be shuttled to the mystery location from downtown Anchorage.
Thanks to the International Gallery of Contemporary Art this event has left the realm of imagination and a night has been chosen. The First Friday of September.
So why Kickstarter? We are using this page to help raise funding for supplies and material for those artists curating each UHaul. Because while the IGCA is able to make this event happen (organize the festival and pay for the UHauls) the burden of designing and executing each installation is on the shoulders of the individual artists.
Plus there is nothing better than community organizing to boost awareness of an event, get people involved and most of all organize the most kick ass UHaul Festival we can.
Check out the funding section on the right to see how you can get involved.
And don't forget to visit www.igcaalaska.org for other information about the event and their blog for updates, including information about the festival's "bus station" which will be installed in the IGCA Guest Room.
FAQ
-
No. What you you get for your $10-$ 25 pledge is information about pick up times.
-
ABSOLUTELY NOT
Again, you do not have to pay to ride the shuttle. Anyone can come to the event. We feel like the ride is an important part of the experience. -
Pledge $100 and call Jimmy at (907) 317 0215. Heck, call Jimmy before pledging anything. If you want to be involved, we want you on our team.
Some organizations are sponsoring UHauls and we will need help deciding what to do with them.
-
Art Galleries, music, spoken word, restaurants, sound installations, video, therapy, tarot card readings, beaches, Whack a Mole.... If it fits in a UHaul, we will do all we can to make it work.
-
Short answer: why not?
Long Answer: Back in 2009 BRICK turned 1 UHaul into a mobile art gallery and drove around downtown for First Friday. It was a lot of fun, so we thought "lets do it again, but 10 times bigger!"
And with your help and the support of the IGCA we can!
