About this project

Hello, my name is Aaron Whitaker, and I'm an alternative cartoonist hoping to fund my first graphic novel "The City Troll".  I have self-published mini-comics throughout the last couple years including my autobiographical series called "The Awkward Quarterly" and collaborated with my girlfriend, Melinda Tracy Boyce, on a comic called "Okay? Okay!".

"The City Troll" is a 180-page black and white comic about a guy named Paul and his extreme self-hate.  He views himself as a creature he calls the city troll.  This graphic novel floats between a surreal world where Paul wallows in his own self pity and the real world where he tackles a love triangle, jealousy, his distancing relationship with his father and his confrontation with his abusive mother.

I have spent almost all my free time creating this book over the last year.  Although it is fiction it has really been an outlet to deal with my own self-image issues and relationships.  There is no way I could afford to print this on my own so I am counting on generous contributions from wonderful people like you.

"The City Troll" will be 180 pages, black and white, full color cover, paperback and 6"x 9" in dimensions.

Super Special Original "The City Troll" Painting - Troll Pledge only
Everyday of this Kickstarter campaign I will paint a new troll creature on a 18"x18" museum grade wood panel (2" thick).  Each troll will embody a fault of the main character Paul.  In the end there will be 36 trolls.  More info coming soon.

12"x12" Painting - Grotesque Pledge and up
I paint with vibrant acrylic paint on 12"x"12 wood panels.  Most paintings extend around the .75" thick edge.  They are  easy to hang and well worth more than the pledge value.

If you pledge at the Grotesque level or higher you may select one of the available paintings below.  These are claimed on a first come basis.

This print is an alternative cover for "The City Troll".  It is an 8.5"x11" color print on card stock that would look totally rad on your wall.

2.5" x 3.5" Small Original Art - Ugly Pledge and up
I will draw on a small piece of bristol board and mail it to you.  I can sketch whatever you want or you can leave it up to me and see what you get.
