Update #7: --YOUR WELL DESERVED GIFTS--

Posted on May 7

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for your love and support of Ger Duany and Wanuri Kahiu's documentary "Ger: To Be Separate" this past October 2012. We cannot believe it has been 6 months since the kickstarter campaign and so much has happened. Ger went to South Sudan and spent the winter in Juba connecting with friends and family, and has some amazing stories and pictures to share. We are still in post-production and we should be done with that stage in the next 2-3 months. In the meantime, we are going to send you-the backers- the pledges this month. So please stay tuned!! :)

Best,

Azza

Update #4: "Ger: To Be Separate" Kickstarter Campaign on Stated Magazine Blog

Posted on September 24, 2011

Thank you to our friends on Stated Magazine for this thoughtful post on their blog. You guys rock!!

GER: TO BE SEPARATE

We recently had the pleasure of meeting Ger Duany. Ger is one of the Lost Boys of Sudan who became a child soldier separated from his family when he was 10. He endured the life of a refugee at camps in Ethiopia and Kenya and, after a tremendous amount of unimaginable struggle and hardship, was brought to the United States at age 14. He now lives in New York City where he is an actor and model.

Award-winning Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu and Ger are ready to share his story. The documentary, Ger: To Be Separate, traces Ger’s path from childhood through his July 2011 return to South Sudan to search for his family and celebrate the country’s independence.

If you’ve not yet supported a Kickstarter campaign, then what better place to start? Join us in support of this film.

To hear a bit from Ger and appreciate the man behind this effort, here is an excellent interview on MukamiTV.

Ger Duany and Azza Satti

Has not connected their Facebook account.

Ger Duany and Azza Satti have teamed up to create a Kickstarter campaign to complete the documentary "Ger: To Be Separate" by Wanuri Kahiu.

Ger Duany is an actor, model and social activist from South Sudan. Ger graduated with a B.S. in Human Services at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, and was featured in David O. Russell's film, "I Heart Huckabees". Award winning Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu documented his odyssey from war child and refugee to Hollywood actor and international fashion model. His amazing journey back home after 18 years to vote for the first time for a new Sudan and celebrate independence was a historic and anticipated experience. The completion of this documentary will mark the beginning of Ger's mission to help rebuild his nation, bringing educational institutions and health care facilities to his home village, Akoba, South Sudan.

Azza Satti is a producer, educator and curator from Sudan and Somalia with a background in art, film and theater. She is passionate about using the arts and arts education for social and political change. Azza holds an M.A. in Arts Politics from Tisch (NYU) and worked at the Rashid Diab Arts Centre and Japan Society before pursuing an independent career as an arts activist. She is on the board of Asmi international, a non-profit that trains young leaders in displaced populations to use theater and literacy to reclaim their identity, and she is leading the Al-Mashish partnership in Nyala, Darfur.
