Presenting a full-color illustrated book on the life of Our Most Holy Patriarch St. Benedict.
Greetings! lets make a beautiful book of the Life of St. Benedict!
St. Benedict was born in Nursia in 480 AD (present day Norcia, Italy) and was one of the most influential benefactors of Western European culture. During his lifetime he founded twelve monasteries throughout Italy with the most famous being that of Monte Cassino. Through monastic scholarship and writings, Europe was able to harbor and succor intellectualism through the declining years of the Roman Empire. Benedict's major achievement was his prescribed "Rule" for living in a monastic community and has a strong base in balance, harmony, reason, and moderation. Benedict also had an influential twin sister, S. Scholastica.
My first contact with the monastic community of S. Benedetto, Norcia was during a Thanksgiving break in 2009. Since that time we have had a wonderful ongoing interaction and today i feel very much a lay brother. As an Illustrator who has done some work for the community, it has long been our plan to publish a full-color illustrated book of the "Life of Our Most Holy Patriarch, Saint Benedict". After much deliberation we have decided that now is the time!
With the help of Brother John Mckenzie O.S.B as well as the spiritual and mental support of my monastic family in Norcia we shall make the finest illustrated book to date of the life of Saint Benedict!
With your support, i will be heading to the Monastery in Norcia in August to complete our task. It is important for me to be in the monastic environment during the execution of this work. The continual dialogue between myself and the monks will help to hone in as much focus on graphic detail as possible. The life style will encourage high levels of artistic ambiance that will echo throughout the work and is implicit in the task at hand. We want to provide you with the highest quality product! We hope to publish a full-color book with some 20-25 illustrations and text by then end of 2012. Our book will then be placed in Catholic bookstores around the globe as well as many other non-religious bookstores!
Our vicinity to the places of importance in S. Benedict's life will afford me the possibility of making on site sketches and photographs that will enrich our project tremendously. The book will also feature pages describing the segues from the ancient traditional monastic way of life to their modern incarnations by taking a look at contemporary monks! (though not much has changed!)
Though my room and board are covered, your contributions will be spent on supplies, publishing, hiring of translators, and research. Our book will be tri-lingual, printed in Latin, English, and Italian!
