Janet Street grew up in Nashville in an artistic family, a sculptor mother and an architect father. One of Janet’s enduring influences was her maternal grandmother, Janet Travell, the personal physician to Presidents John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. Janet spent summers with her grandmother (and horses) and learned that the lines between creativity, imagination, science and innovation are blurred when a person sets on a course of discovery with passion and persistence. Janet was fortunate enough to grow up with horses, drawing and making things. After graduating with a BFA in graphic design from the University of Georgia, she began a career as a designer and illustrator. A few of Janet's picture books: “One Day, Two Dragons” by Lynn Bertrand, ”The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat by Eugene Field and “Animal Fare” by Jane Yolen. ”One Day, Two Dragons” was the winner of the New York Times “Best Children’s Books of the Year” Award.
