Happy weekend! Thanks to all who have donated .. Just 6 days left yikes ... and a new article in "In the Capital"!
Hi Everyone -
Thank You! And Wow..
Thank you so much for all of your contributions. I'm really grateful for the 73 backers and counting. How amazing! Your support is really appreciated and every little bit helps me get to my goal of publishing the book myself instead of needing to seek out a book agent.
Still a ways to go though
With 6 days left on the kickstarter countdown, I wonder if I could raise $3500 (remember that kickstarter deducts approx. 8% from the total in fees) - that would get me 50% of the way toward my goal of $6500 to print in bulk using an offset printer. I'm actually soliciting more quotes from other printers. I found one that will print for less, but I'm concerned about the cost/quality trade-off (the cheaper printer sent over a sample book thad had some creases in the pages).
Are any of you blessed with the gift of gab? Please help me out by spreading the word!
That said - please help spread the word about my project and fundraising. Everyone who helps out gets their name included in the book itself as a token of my appreciation!
I'm amazed by how far the book has come along. After I raise money to print, this book will be a real live hardcover that you can hold in your hands, give to a friend, or read to a kid.
But the book will only succeed if people know about it. So many amazing books fail because the general public just doesn't become aware of them. A Confederacy of Dunces, one of my absolute favorites of all time won a pulitzer prize for writing ... but only after the author committed suicide for frustration that no one would give his work a chance. Anyway, not that I wanted to depress you, just wanted to point out how hard it is for authors.
Another great article about "You Can Do It, Bunny"
That's partially why I'm so amazed that my book is making such waves in the media. Since the Huffington Post, I've seen news of "You Can Do It, Bunny!" pop up in some smaller media outlets.
Check out this GREAT article that appeared in "In the Capital" (regional DC news for students and young entrepreneurs, also owned by Streetwise):
Recent Grad and Can’t Find a Job? Write a Book Like This Georgetown Student [VIDEO]
Remember growing up reading The Little Engine That Could, the children’s book that aimed to provide a sense of optimism with the reiterated line “I think I can”? We can all relate to that consistent need to reinforce faith in ourselves as we journey through life. One Georgetown graduate may have initially felt deceived by the tale of the little railroad engine, but she found her path literally through the words on the pages.
Christina Mercado graduated from Georgetown University in 2011 with a master’s in business administration. She had a bright future ahead of her, but she was suddenly hit with the difficulty all freshly minted graduates face, the job hunt. Her resume boasted great achievements, highlighting her internship with an environmental conservation nonprofit in Mexico. With such promise, she figured a full-time job would be easily attainable, but she quickly discovered how much competition she had.
Ok thats all for now!
