What is TETRAN?
Versatile: TETRAN is the world’s first fully integrated modular design furniture system that allows you to design your own furniture for your unique living space. The outmoded traditional furniture model of one piece of furniture, for one function, one living space, and one style is made obsolete by a modular design system that allows for multifunctional designs, scalable to the dimensions of any living space, and available in an endless array of material and colors. Why TETRAN?
Economical: Furniture Today projects consumer spending for furniture and bedding in 2012 at $81.6 billion—largely a result of replacing outdated, damaged, or useless furniture. Modules are repurposed for a new function or redesigned for alternate living spaces, there are endless color, finish, and material options to keep up with even the most rapid changes in style, and any damaged elements are easily and inexpensively replaced. The result is an extended furniture life cycle that will save consumers tens of thousands of dollars.
Environmental: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that furniture accounted for 10.8 million tons, or 4.3 percent of our trash stream in 2010—again, largely a result of replacing outdated, damaged, or useless furniture. By means of simple repurposing, restyling, and repair, TETRAN’s modular design eliminates the need for millions of tons of furniture waste. In fact, TETRAN’s core elements are made from 100% recycled and recyclable eco-friendly materials. So not only is furniture waste reduced by never having to throw it away, but obsolete traditional furniture waste is recycled to make new modular furniture.

Ruke - TETRAN's Inventor, Designer, and Creative Director with more than 14 years of experience in the field of design. With a B.Sc. from Full Sail University, he specializes in 3D/Multimedia and product design using the virtual world inside his computer to bring his dreams to life. He can design anything he sets his mind to with a great passion for transformative, multi-purpose designs, he is responsible for all of TETRAN's beautiful image and video content. After a frustrating seven months of trying to find furniture for his first tiny college studio apartment (filled with many unfruitful trips to IKEA) Ruke set out to design a new kind of furniture incorporating the modular principles of LEGOs, and the transformative nature of Transformers. After four years of development, he is proud to present TETRAN to the world.
Matt - TETRAN's Financial and Legal Counsel, with more than 4 years of experience in the legal field, is a licensed attorney specializing in transactional law. He has developed TETRAN's budgeting and financial model as well as structuring the supply chain to make TETRAN a reality.
Rex - TETRAN's Press and Marketing Director, with over 10 years in the public relations field, is responsible for getting the word out about TETRAN. For him, the simplicity of the Tetran cube is the realization of his childhood obsessions: Legos, Tetris, and Transformers.
How Does TETRAN work?
Eight planar elements (“Facets”) constructed of ¾” E1 MDF with melamine skins assemble to create eleven different sized cubes (“Cubes”). Each Cube, comprised of five Facets with corresponding locking holes, fastens to any other Cube. Exterior panels (“Panels”) of various colors or materials lock into any Facets not being used to lock the design in place. And, memory foam cushions with interchangeable covers provide comfortable seating with limitless fabric options. The result is unlimited design possibilities.
Flat-packed containers arrive at your doorstep. Varying size cubes (depending on your order) are pre-oriented for fast and easy assembly (instructions for reward designs pictured here on Kickstarter will be available for viewing and print on our website: tetranliving.com). Once assembled, cubes are fastened together in any variety of designs to fit the dimensions of any living space and meet any functional need. Replaceable cushion covers and exterior panels affix to outer cube faces allow for endless color, finish, and material options. Assembly is streamlined with just one universal screw and one universal lock for the entire system. All core elements of TETRAN furniture will be manufactured in China.

Below is the timeline of events showing our progress over the last couple of years and the next steps for TETRAN:
- 2009 – Initial concept development and design image rendering
- January – March, 2011 – Patenting
- January – May, 2011 – initial material sourcing, and manufacturer evaluation, and fabrication of prototypes
- October, 2011 - May, 2012 – Video production, website development, and press campaign
- Now – July, 2012 – KICKSTARTER Campaign to raise funds for first production manufacturing run and online Virtual Builder
- August – October, 2012 – First production manufacturing run
- November – December, 2012 – Fulfillment and delivery of Kickstarter orders
How Does Kickstarter Work?
Many hours in Excel with financial models have resulted in the magic number (our Minimum Funding Goal) of $150K. This amount is necessary for us to complete our first production run and deliver TETRAN to your doorstep. We now have only 40 days to raise pledges equal to, or greater, than this Minimum Funding Goal. If we raise pledges one dollar short of this goal, no transactions will take place--your credit/debit card will not be charged and we’ll have to find another way to raise funds. However, once we hit our minimum funding goal we will have the money we need to make TETRAN a reality!
Color/Material Options & Shipping:
The Kickstarter website does not allow for color, material, or shipping options in making a your pledge (I know right!?!?). We will send all Backers a survey at successful completion of the project confirming your color and material selections, and shipping address.
Tx_Panels (MDF): The Medium Density Fiber (MDF) exterior panel (Tx_Panel) option will be available in Light and Dark Wood Grain finishes (as pictured in the timeline images below).
Tx_Panels (PMMA): The Acrylic Glass (PMMA) exterior panel (Tx_Panel) option is a more expensive material and will be available in semi-opaque red, green, blue, brown, black, and white.
Cx_Covers: The cushion covers (Cx_Covers) will be available in a durable microfiber in red, green, blue, brown, black, and white.
Domestic Shipping Charges: Because Kickstarter does not allow for the separate calculation of shipping costs, we have already added US continental(+Canada) shipping charges into the Reward price.
International Shipping: International backer will need to pay additional shipping charges. Please email us with shipping address for rates.

The seat cushion is a combination of 5” polyurethane support foam with a 3” top layer of high-density memory, and the back cushion is a medium-soft polyurethane foam for incomparable support and comfort.

Material options outside of those offered above (Acrylic Glass/MDF Tx_Panels and Microfiber Cx_Covers) have been developed, but are not available for purposes of the Kickstarter project. If you are interested in further customizing your TETRAN furniture with alternative materials please click the "Send Message" link at the top of the project page and let us know what you are thinking. We'll be happy to get you a quote for those upgrades. Remember, you can always pledge for the design that you want, and we will confirm your material and color options in our questionnaire at the completion of the project, before shipping.

¾ “ E1 Medium Density Fiber Board (E1 MDF). Made of recycled and recyclable materials, E1 MDF is nearly twice as dense (and therefore twice as strong) as the particle board that IKEA uses to make their furniture and E1 MDF is temperature and moisture resistant—again, IKEA not so much. The melamine veneer provides added durability and ease of cleaning.

Acrylonitrile butadiene stryrene (ABS)—the same seemingly indestructible material used to make LEGOs! While the cost of producing ABS is roughly twice the cost of producing polystyrene, it is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, and toughness.

We are projecting delivery by November, 2012. We receive funds about two weeks after the close of the project campaign. Once we receive funds we place the orders with our manufacturers and get your brand new TETRAN furniture to you ASAP!

Cubes come flat-packed to your door by ground delivery service. When you open up the boxes the cubes are pre-oriented for assembly, so all you have to do is pull them out and put in the fastening screws (one universal screw). Once the cubes are constructed they are easily fastened together with our Lx_Locks in any design configuration you choose. For the smaller designs a screwdriver will do for assembling cubes. For the larger designs you may want save your wrists the rotations and use a power drill or power screw driver with a Phillips-head bit (#2 Pozi drive bit) to assemble cubes as there will be a greater number of screws with a greater number of cubes. An Allen (hex) key for the Lx_Locks will be provided with your order.
