I am a Bay Area based choreographer and performer. Three months ago I applied to the highly competitive danceWEB residency program as an emerging choreographer, and out of 1023 applicants I got accepted! I am one of TWO Americans invited to attend. 

The danceWEB Program is a 5-week residency, taking place in July/August within the frame of ImPulsTanz - Vienna international Dance Festival. The residency offers 60 young professional dancers and choreographers from approximately 40 countries the possibility to experience intense physical  training while being provided with space to create new choreography.

Two artistic mentors, renowned international choreographers Benoît Lachambre & Robin Poitras, will facilitate our choreographic work.

The Bay Area, while having a rich creative community, is quite isolated from the rest of the United States' and Europe's dance scene. This opportunity to attend danceWEB would allow me the time, resources, and mentorship to create new choreography. Also, being there will expose me to the work and aesthetic of artists from all over the world. ImPulsTanz is the largest international dance festival in Europe, and consequently the best place to network and develop professional connections.

My interest lies in promoting cultural exchange and the creation of live art in the Bay Area. I see this time in Vienna as directly impacting my ability to facilitate this kind of art-making. I will share the work I create at danceWEB upon my return, and I hope to make lasting connections between the Bay Area and European artists/organizations.

There are very few resources for professional development and for emerging artists in California. Given that fact, I am relying on direct means of fund raising in order to accept this exciting opportunity. $3,000 covers 1/3 of the danceWEB program costs and housing (2/3 of the program cost is covered by European Cultural institutions for the Arts). I will be paying out-of-pocket for travel expenses and food while I'm abroad.  Please help me achieve my goal of attending danceWEB so that I can continue to grow as an artist, developing informed and relevant art.
