5 Acts. 5 Companies. 1 Play: Pericles, by William Shakespeare
For our fourth year as a company, Blunt Objects is embarking on it's largest project to date - an epic collaboration between five Chicago artist groups that will result in a full production of William Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre. The way the project works is, we have assigned each Act of the play to a different company, and each company is given complete artistic freedom to interpret, edit, and use that text however they want to tell the story.
Pericles is a beautiful but seldom-performed play, an existential epic about a Prince who wanders the earth through triumphs and heartbreaks. There are pirates, brothels, incest, tyrants, and all the other fascinating tribulations that people seem to forget about when listing the common motifs in Shakespeare! We are so excited to bring this awesome story onstage with these wonderful fellow artists in Chicago, including:
Stephen F. Murray, a free-lance director who brings his unique brand of theatricality, mask, and ensemble work to Act I of Pericles;
Katie Graves and Matthew McMunn, dance artists who apply stunning movement and choreography in Act II;
The Unrehearsed Shakespeare Company, who utilize the daring First Folio Cue Script Technique for Act III;
Equity Library Theatre Chicago, who will make you think twice about the human conscience and human behavior in Act IV;
Blunt Objects Theatre, the host of the event, will bring their distinct style of raw minimalism to the final Act of Pericles.
But, of course, we need your help to make this production a success! We have a variety of fun rewards to recognize all sorts of levels of support, and remember that every dollar really does help.
HELP US EXCEED OUR GOAL!
Our humble goal for this campaign helps cover production costs of the space, but the production costs for each company to pay their performers and build props and costumes is different. Your support here will pair with ticket sales to ensure that Shakespeare, I Love You is a successful project for each of the companies involved!
COME SEE THE PRODUCTION IN MARCH!
Ticket prices are set at the incredibly affordable rates of $15 general admission and $10 for students. This is going to be a fantastic piece of theatre, involving some amazing representative Chicago companies, and you don't want to miss out.
If you pledge $50 or more - which would be a cheap enough price tag for a night for two at most Chicago theatres - you get those two reserved tickets to see our show PLUS a bunch of other delightful goodies that you can check out here on Kickstarter. Or just donate $25 to get the one ticket with your goodies.
And at ANY level of donation, your name will be on display in the lobby program and on our website.
