HERE'S THE STORY:

Red Bull Theater presents Michael Sexton’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s character, Margaret.

Give Queen Margaret her due. Our workshop will show Margaret as the leading lady she truly was –– hungry for power, inspired by sex, and as cunning as the men surrounding her. Margaret challenges those who conspire to control her.

Told in one evening, we follow Margaret as she grows from a young girlish flirt, to adulteress and back room operator, to wartime Queen and leader. Margaret’s strength and determination conspire with her fate to take her far from the plain girl we first meet, to an oracular voice who, in her prophecies and curses, pronounces judgment on a society that has descended into the horror of civil war.

The incredible story of Margaret of Anjou gets front-and-center attention in this adaptation, putting Margaret in her rightful place at the center of her own story. She becomes as rich, complicated and full of suspense as a Henry or Macbeth.

HELP Red Bull Theater bring MARGARET to life. Contribute to the excavation of this important female character from a time when men were King.

Together we will produce a 2-week workshop, developing a new, single-evening adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry VI plays, focused on the journey of the great character of Queen Margaret. The workshop will culminate in public performances from February 24-27, 2011, as an "In the Raw" presentation at The Theater at St. Clements, in collaboration with The Shakespeare Society.
