2011 Farm Digest

Update #12 · Feb 19, 2012 · comment
Hello Kickstarter Supporters!

While some of you may be following our progress through our blog and email list, it's been quite a while since we've sent you -- our first supporters -- an update.

We are happy to report that we are still going strong! We are entering into our second full year on the farm (the 3/4 acre parcel that we began leasing toward the end of our Kickstarter campaign). We'd like to point you toward our 2011 Farm Digest that we put together this winter. As promised in the beginning of this project, we have outlined as thoroughly as we could the successes and challenges of farming in the city so far. We're also looking forward to sharing more specific numbers (expenses, etc) as we finish closing out our books for last year.

We're excited about an ambitious season ahead**. We'll be keeping ourselves quite busy with restaurant sales, a CSA and a weekly farmers market. If you're not on our email list already, please do sign up here so we can continue to include you when we send out our thoughts, concerns and rambles about urban farming. We are still so thankful to all of you who supported us at the outset of this project, we wouldn't be where we are without you.

Caitlyn & Brooke
** A note on our land situation: We continue to lease the land on a month-to-month basis, and we've received no indication that we will be evicted anytime soon. That's about all we know. The developer who owns the land is actively pursuing his development options, but it's unclear how far he's been able to get considering the property's challenging location and orientation. While our land tenure is indeed a bit shaky, we will proceed with our farm season optimistically.
