We are a group of people, all with psychiatric histories, who are creating The Firewalkers Project. We have published one book and toured some with it. We have spoken to more than a thousand “peers”, students, professors and mental health providers. Because we believe that we are the experts on our own recovery, resiliency and lives we are experts on this topic!

It is time to publish another book, this time an anthology on alternatives in mental health.

With Kickstarter you can pre-order the book or order the original Firewalkers book in order to bring this project to fruition.  We are part of a 501c3 so if you are paying more than $20 per book (with shipping) then you have yourself a tax write-off!

With Firewalkers  we set out to radically rethink mental health and redefine mental illness as a journey of altered states, emotional turbulence, ecstatic visions, crazy blessings, and mad gifts.

Through storytelling, photography, media engagement, book publishing, community art groups, trainings, and grassroots outreach, Firewalkers is changing the story of mental health.

Firewalkers chronicles the profound, turbulent, spiritual experience of living through a mental health crisis. What our society labels as “mental illness” can be a sacred quest that has the power to enrich us, reveal unknown strengths, and transform our lives.

We are also looking for submissions for this project: well written essays offering new perspectives on what is labeled mental illness written by those who have been through it.

Where is the money going? Most of the money will be spent on production costs. We will need a proofreader, cover art, formatting, advertisements to find writers, etc.
