Hot Cakes had Opened!!

Update #2 · May 23, 2012 · 6 comments
I have been absent from posting because we finally had our soft opening last Friday and our official first day on Saturday! We were pretty busy - not as busy as I would like to be yet, but I have faith that people will come and experience the fine food we are producing. We got our first comment on YELP and the review was good but they complained the prices were too high...it breaks my heart that most people don't understand the quality and integrity of the ingredients we are using...people are so used to paying a lot less for dessert - as if dessert is just an after thought...I hope that we can educate people and help them to understand why it's important to use amazing organic ingredients in desserts - not just in your salad bowl or dinner plate. Anyways, I am just so thrilled to have had so much love and positive feedback from everybody here on Kickstarter - I had no idea how wonderful this was going to be. The support is incredible, the time people are spending to learn and then care for what we are doing makes me overflow with joy. I feel like the Kickstarter community understands what we are trying to do in this crazy world of fast-paced, instant gratification world. Thank you for your generosity, kind words, support and humor - I hope that all who have pledged and those who are simply moved by Hot Cakes mission, have the opportunity to come visit our shop in Seattle! We would love to meet you and serve you deliciousness. With love and gratitude,

autumn

      Autumn,

Don't give up!!!! There are people out there that appreciate what you are doing with your shop. People that can appreciate what labor, time and quality ingredients will bring them. Something that a real person took time and love to product for them. I for one am more than happy to pay 2-3.00 more for something of amazing quality then 2-3.00 less for something that left me unsatisfied. I can't wait to come visit your shop and taste everything. I hope to make it out this summer sometime to taste your smoked chocolates I'm very excited by that.

Keep your head up and you'll do great!

Well personally I wouldn't put too much stock in an initial review as a better gauge for a business of any sort can only accurately be taken a month or two down the line when the staff have been broken in, the pressure of just starting out has finally died down some, and the employees only interested in getting a pay check rather than provide quality service have revealed themselves in all of their lazy glory. Still I can't say that I'm wholly unsympathetic to what the critic is saying about the price. I mean sure there are some who just don't appreciate a truly well made meal and for those people there isn't a whole lot of hope. But I think that type of person is really in the minority with the majority looking at your price and going "Hmm, do I really want to leave with a really expensive but small, single serve lava cake or buy from a cheaper competitor (possibly one next door to your shop) and have some money for gas later on?" or, if you want to go more superficial, "I'd really love that box of cookies but if I buy this now I'll not have enough for the movie I plan to see later on." I mean this is especially true of college students and parents who have to weigh these kind of decisions whenever paying for something costly. I mean sure maybe their kid really wants it but paying for that desert now could leave them a little too short on rent money at the end of the month or without enough funds to pay for the new semester. As it seems they are the crowd you're going for (particularly the latter of the two) it seems to me what they said is not an unwarranted criticism by any means.

Prices to high well awww....didn't their mother teach them if you can't say nothin nice not to say any thing at all? Well...that is not really a complaint any way. Think only good things and focused on the happy customers. It will show in your face and your work. Your positive energy will bring more positive people to you. I can say I am impressed you have so many people willing to help and wish you nothing but the best! All the best to you, keep your head up you can do it!! I know you can! Thanks for the update! Smiles....all the way from the south! Y'all have a lovely day!

99% of the reviews in Seattle on Yelp are about prices being too high. I don't even see that as a real complaint. If you don't have the money to eat somewhere, then don't. Love that Hot Cakes is in my neighborhood, and I didn't mind the prices at all...I hope you raise this last $3500!
