About this project

Who is Pastry Girl and why is she opening a bake shop?

In 2006, I left law school after my first year to pursue my dream of owning a bakery. I began a work study program at The Institute of Culinary Education and worked off 1600 hours to cover my tuition for their Pastry & Baking Arts program. At culinary school, I learned classic French baking techniques, chocolate work and was introduced to cake decorating.

After an internship at a cake studio and bakery on the lower east side, I started selling my own confections and Pastry Girl Cakes was born. Since I began making custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies, Pastry Girl Cakes has enjoyed success in bridal magazines, a cake decorating book, countless bridal blogs and most recently as part of WPIX NYC Magical Wedding.

What kind of baked goods will Pastry Girl Bake Shop sell?

A rotating, seasonal menu of classics like apple pie and banana bread mixed with modern updates like dessert shooters and cake balls. We will operate as a full scale retail bakery as well as take custom dessert and cake orders.

How is Pastry Girl Bake Shop different than any other bakery?

Pastry Girl Bake Shop will provide modern updates on classic desserts and will only use high quality ingredients such as Callebuat chocolate and Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla. All of our pastries are made from scratch without any preservatives, stabilizers or shortening.

Customers can wander in for a breakfast treat or afternoon snack as well as order custom desserts and cakes for special events.

What will donations be used to buy?

We’ve already raised some capital and are close to reaching our goal, but we still need kitchen items like a refrigerator, freezer, mixer, oven and sink. Your support would pay for these items and help us open a bakery.

How will donors be rewarded for their generosity?

There is no way to truly express how grateful we are for any support we receive, but we would like to extend the following rewards for contributing to our bakeshop fund (check the rewards at your right!)
