A short film that shows the awesome power of the narrative as a simple day for Wilfred turns into a quest to save the princess.
Wilfred the Stout: An Epic Tale About a Normal Day
Let me just get this out of the way first. My video? Yeah, not that great. But it's the best I could do given the circumstances. Turns out, life is hard when you only make $210 a week while living in LA. You can't afford a decent camera and microphone for one; then even if you could, having nine roommates will make it impossible to record something in silence.
So why put it up? Why risk the embarrassment? Because there are no rewards without risks. Allow me to explain to you my risk.
About the Film
Wilfred the Stout tells the story of Wilfred, a less than average man who has a less than average life. Stuck in a meaningless marriage and a meaningless job, Wilfred's life is not one for the silver screen. That is until it's narrated. Not just any narration, but an epic, fantasy inspired narration that harkens back to days when we were kids and the sticks we found in our backyards became deadly swords; a shed was a haunted castle and an older brother was the evil king. Wilfred the Stout uses the power of fantastical imagination to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Characters
Wilfred: Late 40's, bored dull individual. Has been married for 25 years to Angie, his High School sweetheart. Works as a paper stamper at a large company where he spends his days in a comatose state except when his coworker Melinda is around.
Angie: Wilfred's wife. A quiet woman who is more interested in television than she is in her marriage.
Melinda (pending name change): Wilfred's coworker and the object of his affection, though he isn't brave enough to show it. She is the princess of the story.
Gary (pending name change): Wilfred's and Melinda's boss. He is the villain of the story.
About the Filmmaker
Chris Andriessen is an aspiring writer/producer/director living in West Hollywood. He foolishly believed that his three and a half years in television news at KCOY in Santa Barbara County, California; would easily earn him a job with one of the major studios in Hollywood. It did not. Not one to give up, Chris got a job at a local grocery store and has dedicated his free time to writing and getting this project going. Wilfred the Stout will be his first film, but he has worked on several before, including student films at USC and the new webseries Where The Bears Are. Wilfred the Stout will be the first film by Chris' one man production company, Stars and Slime Films.
About Production
Pending successful fundraising, Wilfred the Stout will be shot over three days in the Los Angeles area. Locations are simple (house, car, office), but insurance, actor fees, location rentals, equipment rentals, food services and post production do add up. That's why we're asking for $6,500; enough to cover everything we need, including the rewards and film festival entry fees. Our hope is to have this film playing at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, LA Shorts Festival and South by Southwest, just to name a few.
