About this project

Today is the last day to donate!

We Made our GOAL! Thank you everyone who has pledged so far!!! This is great! Please don't stop spreading the word. All donations will be put to good use. Lot's of equipment, transportation and food costs require us to earn as much as possible. It will all be spent on production. This project was so fun and so intense! We need as much backing as possible! Thank you!

Here are a few screenshots taken from the Finale Episodes. This is just a small peek! It's now being edited! Again, thank so much. All money will go directly towards paying for cost of production.

Origin: In the very beginning of 2011 I started producing this web series I Hate Being Single. This was my first project as the sole writer and star. As an actor I always thought I would stumble into a role that would be perfect for me but it took a while to realize I should write that part myself. Putting the show together has been an amazingly fulfilling experience but I've reached a point where I need help from friendly people like yourself to finish the job. If you like what you see above, a donation will help make that season complete and get it online for everyone to see. You have the power!

Other things I've been a part of:

UCB's Onassis,  Broad CityActing Reel Master DatabaseGainfully Unemployed, Nights In Ultraviolet

About IHBS: The show follows Rob, who is a lonely twenty something who was dumped and doesn't want to join the single life in Brooklyn. He's pretty clueless when it comes to dating and he doesn't know where he belongs. Throughout the series Rob goes on weird dates, tries to reconnect with elementary school crushes, befriends his banker, gets stuck at a board game party, and eventually joins an underground cult of single guys.

People say the show reminds them of a mix between Flight of the Concords and Curb Your Enthusiasm. That's cool with me! I'm really pleased with the tone of the show. The tone is very subtle and dry. Some of the dialogue is loosely scripted and improvised. I owe a lot of the look and feel to the Director, DP and composer for the early epsiodes: Dan Opsal, Giga Shane, and Jake Zavracky. Jake creates the songs based on things I've asked him for. He is a musical genius and his music defines that tone of the show.

Links to Press: Portable.tv, Serial Optimist.

Talent: Talent on the show have credits ranging from from Upright Citizen's Brigade Performers, contributing writers to The Onion, SNL, writers for 30 Rock, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Stand Up Comedians, improvisors, and hilarious people from the NYC comedy community.

The Director of the finale episodes is TJ Misny: IMDB, Broad City who has a fantastic crew of tightly knit camera, dp, and various roles to make this look like a hollywood production!

NYTVF: In the fall of 2011, I Hate Being Single was accepted as an official selection in the Independent Pilot Competition at The New York Television Festival. It was an honor to be accepted and meet tons of other talented people who also have a passion for creating new TV. The experience was amazing because I met many people face to face who had seen the show, and were really excited about it. At the end of the week, we were awarded the Bing Audience Choice Award. This let's me know that you will really be happy with the show when it comes out and we can have a great series. Just need to finish it up!

What is done already: We have completed 5 episodes and they are ready for release as soon as the final 2 are complete. As soon as there are 7 complete episodes I plan on releasing them online.

Q: Why do we need money now if we've already made 5 episodes without it?

A: I have been really fortunate to get this far without any funding. I've asked friends who trusted we'd be making something fun to help out without any pay. I edit all the episodes and this costs nothing to anyone. The reason we need money now is that I wrote the final episodes of the season to be a little bigger and involving more production than a typical IHBS webisode. This is going to look much more like a cable TV show then a web series. I think it's the finale episode, if people care enough to watch through to the end of it, they should get a high quality and production show. It was also a chance for me to showcase the potential of the show and how well it could be made with little money. 5000 is a lot to me and you, but not to a network. I am very excited to show you our finished product when this is done because it will look like 1 million dollars!

The money will go towards:

Equipment Rental

Director

Producer

Director of Photography

Assistant to Camera

Sound Recordist

Steadicam Operator

Locations

Feeding Crew

Transportation of Equipment

Props

Please Note: This budget is specifically to fund the final 2 (five minute each) episodes of this season. We have done a ton of the work without any donations besides personal time and equipment but we've run out of favors! This is a good deal because the majority of the project is already done! We plan on filming these episodes by the end of December and we will start releasing the series in 2012! That's a quick turnaround for you!

Connected as Rob Michael Hugel (915 friends)

Hi my name is Rob. I'm an actor and comedian living in Brooklyn.
My favorite performers and shows have always been: Gene Wilder, Peter Sellers, The Muppets, Pee Wee Herman, Jim Carrey, Seinfeld, Freaks and Geeks, Ricky Gervais, Jason Schwartzman, Louis CK, and many more.
I've been making videos with my friends since 6th grade. It was something I knew I wanted to do back then.
5 years ago I moved to NYC and began studying improv at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. I've studied under teachers and coaches such as Zach Woods (The Office), Charlie Todd (Improv Everywhere), Michael Delaney (The Other Guys), Chris Gethard (Big Lake), Lennon Parham (BFF on NBC) and too many more to list...
I now perform on a sketch team at UCB, in addition to running two independent underground comedy shows with my girlfriend Shannon (who also plays Shannon in the series) . I've been featured in some commercials by HBO, Avis, and most notably the Hall's subway print ads.
In 2010 I was the primary director, editor and co-writer for the web series Broad City, who are close friends. They are now working on a development deal with FX with Amy Poehler as the executive producer!

Most of my time is spent editing the new series in addition to producing the next episodes, planning our variety and standup shows, rehearsing with the sketch team, performing standup, writing scripts, auditioning for commercials and hanging out with my girlfriend and cat.

I really love I Hate Being Single because it's sense of humor is straight out of my perspective on life, and social situations. My favorite comedies are relatable. I like when there's an issue the characters have that we've all had in our life too. I'm really excited for people to see the rest of the show. The final episodes are going to look amazing, finish up the story of the season, and widen the scope of what this series can really become. I want to take web series production to the next level! Please help and I promise the product will make you feel good.
