Hello, my name is Jonas Magram and I would like to welcome you to my kickstarter recording project.
I have been writing and performing music for over 40 years. During the last several years, I have begun performing at different spiritual centers including Unity Churches, Centers for Spiritual Living, Universalist Unitarian Churches, and various yoga centers, all venues where my music seems to fit particularly well. I often do house concerts as well. I have just begun a four month tour of the Pacific Northwest, California, the Southwest.
Straight From My Heart, will feature eight to nine original songs that really do come straight from my heart. These will include "Jake's Song," written for my autistic son Jake, "Pledged To Our Love," written for Sandy, my wife of 30 years, and "To Know I Am The Sea, which explores the sometimes painful gap between the loving and compassionate person I aspire to be and the less than perfect human being I am.
Straight From My Heart will be my third CD, following Dancing in the Light, recorded in 2005, and Freedom Train, recorded in 2007. Both of these have been very well received and have helped make my music tours financially viable. You can listen to clips from both of these at my website: www.jonasmagrammusic.com.
Straight From My Heart will be recorded at Gawain Mathews studios in San Pablo, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. I met Gawain there during a recently completed 10-city concert tour. Although Gawain records and produces many styles of music, I was impressed with the consistent tastefulness and quality of everything he does. You can listen to examples of much of his past work at www.gawainmathews.com. I think you'll be as impressed as I am.
The funds I am raising for the project will be used as follows: (numbers are approximate)
Studio Time For Recording and Mixing (14 days total): $4,480
Studio Talent (including planned backup vocals, percussion, etc.): $1,230
Artword Design/Prep and First Pressing of CDs: $1,400

I was born and raised in Oakland, California, and graduated from Cal State University, Chico. First song: "I Stand Here Alone." First band: Stronger Than Dirt. Trivia: Once played on the same bill as Janis Joplin and Big Brother. Married to wife, Sandy, for 30 years this November. Three grown children: Jesse, Selena, and Jake.
