About this project

Hola!

I am Auralís Herrero Lugo, the designer behind Auralís--a sustainable clothing label based in New York City and Puerto Rico.

I invite you to help me orchestrate a magnificent synergy between my two favorite islands. I want to bring together the sustainable fashion design industries in Puerto Rico and New York for this upcoming Fashion Week. I ask for your support in launching my Spring 2011 Collection, and present for the first time during New York Fashion Week at the Green Shows--the premier event where eco-minded designers come together to showcase their work.

A little bit about me: I have been designing since my early days in Puerto Rico. I must have been five when I started designing, and I have not stopped since. Today, I pour all my creativity into my label. Every day at my Brooklyn based studio is what I call an eco-venture. Here, I create pieces with an eco–consciousness, and a passion for beautiful design.

About the collection: This next Spring 2011 collection will be my second collection since launching my line in 2009. Aside from making beautiful sustainable clothing for men and women, I also want to rescue old artisanal and eco-conscious Puerto Rican crafts from extinction. I will employ and collaborate with local Puerto Rican artists to reinterpret and modernize some of the island’s cultural troves. I also want to showcase some of the sustainable and ethical fashion design initiatives already happening in the island, such as Concalma--a line of sustainably and ethically manufactured bags and purses. The collection will also include exclusive custom fabric prints from local NYC textile designers. The fabrics will be block printed at my Brooklyn studio, using vegetable natural non-toxic inks. These new design collaborations will be featured in the show, alongside my pieces.

Auralís blossomed out of the need to create for a better future. It has been a labor of love and passion since the beginning. This enterprise would not have been possible without the help of family, friends and their family and friends. The Spring 2011 line also NEEDS YOUR TLC! The money you pledge will go a long way into producing and introducing the line during September’s New York Fashion Week. Not only will it help me, but also all other artisans and designers involved in the project.

There are a lot of expenses to cover, but I know it can be done. All of the contributions add up, so no amount is too small. I want to get as many people involved as possible. You will forever be a part of an extraordinary collection at New York Fashion Week!

Your Pledges will help with the following:

-Produce the actuall collection pieces
-Accessories artists will create for the show
-The Show expenses, amongst them:

While other children grew up listening to their parents’ favorite Wilkins or Elvis, Auralís grew up listening to the lulling hum of her mother’s sewing machine. Her mother and grandmother all talented seamstresses fed Auralís a complete fascination with construction and fabric. She has been sketching dresses since her early days in Puerto Rico. After years in the industry designing clothes that did not really make the world a better place, Auralís decided to capture her own voice with this new label. Nowadays, she pours all her creativity into the line’s collections. Every day at the Brooklyn based studio is an eco-venture. Here, Auralís creates timeless pieces that incorporate contemporary silhouettes with eco-conciousness and a passion for beautiful design. In this new line, this creative genius brings enticing designs to life by conserving resources. They evoke Caribbean childhood memories and breezy summer nights in the tropics.
