We made it!! STRETCH GOAL TIME!!

We did it!!  We get to make the record!  And by "we" I mean all of us.  We're so proud of the whole team.  We really all pulled together and worked to DRIVE this thing right over the finish line.  With time to spare!  Which is great, because that leaves us 4 days to raise money for our stretch goals.

Here's how it works.  Since we raised the $25,000, we get to make the record.  But that's it.  There is no duplication, publicity or radio support included in that number.  (or Kickstarter fees - we actually have to clear around $27,000 to take home $25,000)  We've got to come up with the money for that on our own.  UNLESS!!  Can we do it?  Can we raise enough to cover some of those costs?

$4584 - It's going to cost us around $2420 to make 2500 copies of the CD.  For the vinyl records, it's going to cost another $2164.  So it's not cheap.  We use recycled packaging, and that's a little more expensive, but we think it's worth it.  Think you can help out with that?  For this stretch goal, let's see if we can raise enough between now and November 14th to cover it!  That'll push our total up to $30,000.  So- If we hit that goal, EVERY single backer, no matter what amount, gets a limited edition D&T Can Coozie!  Everybody.  Only costs $1.  The only way to get this is to be a backer.

We're Doug and Telisha and we're dying to bring Things that Used to Shine to your door.

Since we released Ghost of the Knoxville Girl in 2009, we have traveled thousands of miles, been to 47 states and 6 Canadian provinces, played hundreds of shows, and met some of the most amazing and inspiring people in the world.  We left our home in Virginia and spent a year living on the road before we settled down (sort of) in East Nashville, Tennessee.

Just one little tour!
Just one little tour!

We've listened and learned from your stories.  True stories.  Stories about stock car drivers, drug addicts, other touring musicians, people who have been abused, stories about loss and rejection and how we all deal with our own struggles.

We've taken those stories, and some of our own, and pieced them together in this collection of songs, Things that Used to Shine.  It's sort of a study on the human spirit.  Sounds kind of big and lofty when you say it that way, and maybe it is.  But it's our own honest look at what happens when things get tough.  Some people can't take it.  Some get violent.  Some push forward, one foot in front of the other, in amazing ways.  We'll let you listen to the songs for yourself, but what we've found is that the one thing beneath it all, the most important thing in love, life, and art, is the truth.

We are confident that this collection of songs is the best we've written so far, and we are thrilled by this opportunity to share them with you.  We're putting together an incredible team to give these songs the respect they deserve, and we are asking you to be a part of that team.  Yes, you, not that dude behind you at the counter, though he looks like a nice guy.

Here's the deal

We need $25,000 to reach our kick starter project goal.  It's a lot of money, we know, but we have a chance to work with one of the best producers in Nashville.  We're talking multiple grammys on the shelves.  This is huge!  Since arriving in East Nashville, we've had the amazing fortune to be able to play with some of the best musicians in the city, a city known for the best musicians in the world.

We've spent time with and written with the best writers in a town full of the best writers in the world.  We're truly humbled and inspired to be a part of this community.  More so, we're humbled by the support we have here- these people are WRITING with us!  And they're going to play on the record!  It's a really big deal, so we're giving you the chance to be a part of it, too.  It's a chance for us all to pull together and be a part of something extraordinary.

*** If we do not meet the $25,000 goal, the project will not be funded, your credit card will not be charged, and no thank-you gifts will be sent out. **

How do you join the team?

It's super simple . . .

  • Choose your favorite thank-you gift from the list to your right ------>
  • Tell all your friends about it.  Share this project on facebook, tweet about it, blog away, text, call, knock on doors.  However you can get your friends involved.  Let's make this the ultimate dream team!

If, by chance, our team is so awesome (which we fully anticipate) that we exceed our goal, the extra money will be used for manufacturing, radio, promotion, and touring to support this project.

You are a part of lives everyday, and we appreciate all that you have done and continue to do for us along the way.  We can't wait to share this experience with you.

We trust you.  We love you!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Once the project is funded, we've got to get to work. Every project has risks and challenges. We plan to record in early December, mix through the remainder of the month, and then hopefully finish the mastering process in January of 2013. This will allow us ample time to get the project duplicated by March, and get our release plans in order before Spring. Because our project depends on the involvement of other people (producer, musicians, engineers, etc.), there's always the chance that something could slow the process down.

We've got a great team. We're really looking forward to working with them. However, if one of our principal players gets sick or has to back out for any reason, we'll have to shift to our back up plan. The good news is that we're already preparing for that possibility. Living in East Nashville and being a part of this amazingly supportive community means that we have lots of great choices when it comes to players and producers. That means that if we do encounter a problem, it may slow us down a little, but it won't stop us. You can be sure that once this project is funded, we're going to get it to you. We're really glad to have you as a part of our team. Thanks for putting your trust in us!
