Cine Migratorio is a migration-themed film festival that will take place May 10-13, 2012 in Santander, Spain.

Cine Migratorio is a migration-themed film festival that will take place May 10-13, 2012 in Santander, Spain. The Festival aims to present a program of artistically accomplished, thematically challenging and stimulating films about migration to students, migrants, Santander residents, and anyone who wishes to join us for this weekend-long event. We hope these films will incite reflection and discussion about migration, but also about the power of film to capture mobility in a modern age. We appreciate the support of our local partners: Cantabria Acoge, Centro Cultural Eureka, and UIMP.

Cine Migratorio will screen films that explore a wide range of migration-related themes and issues, from the way in which economic and social forces that drive migration cross as many borders as migrants themselves, to personal migration stories, to films less directly concerned with migration but still resonant with its effects and contexts.

We hope to provide, for at least one weekend, a space for many stories to be told and heard, shown and shared.

In addition to screenings, Cine Migratorio will feature lectures, workshops, live music, and other events. Leading up to the festival, Cine Migratorio organizers are teaching filmmaking classes and programs in local schools and migration agencies. During the festival, we will show the short films that the migrants make in these workshops.

Our financial resources are very limited, and yet we have been able to work wonders to put together an incredible program. Still, we have just a couple of costs that we need help with:

1) For the most part, our program consists of films that we are able to show for free, after securing the permission of the filmmakers. However, we will be screening the excellent feature-length documentary ABENDLAND on our opening night. We need to raise money to cover the cost of the screening rights.

2) We are extremely lucky to have two renowned guest speakers attend our festival: Madrid-based human rights lawyer and migration activist Gabriela Morales Gracia, and University of Barcelona Professor of Political Science, Xavier Torrens. In order to pay for their transportation fares to and from Santander and hotel for one night, we need your help.

Any contributions we receive that put us over our goal, we will use for the costs of our photography exhibition and printing posters, a cost we recently discovered we need to bear entirely on our own.

Please help us raise these funds for Santander's first migration-themed film festival, where migrant communities all over town will come together and share their stories!

Thank you.
