"The Pink Hotel" is Chicago artist Chris Hefner's first feature film, and is slated for completion in March 2010.
The production of "The Pink Hotel" has been funded entirely through the generosity of friends & well-wishers, as well as simply out of the director's pocket. Production began approximately one year ago, and has been steadily chugging along all the way through to the last stages of post production within a year. This has been a tremendously rewarding and successful endeavor for all involved so far, and it's our hope to utilize Kickstarter to get the picture out where the world can see it! "The Pink Hotel" will be premiered in it’s home town of Chicago in March, however a small European tour is to follow, with proposed screenings in London, Paris, Berlin and Oslo. We hope to fund this trip and pay off the film's remaining production costs via our kickstarter campaign.
The goal for the exhibition and initial distribution of “The Pink Hotel” is to maintain the self-sufficient, grass-roots method that has been essential to the film’s mission since the beginning of production. In this case, this involves writer/director Chris Hefner personally traveling with the film and setting up screenings at independent or alternative screening or performance spaces. Through personally accompanying the film to its initial screenings, he hopes to foster a more open, involved sense of community between the film, it’s makers and it’s audience. In a larger sense, the belief is that this is a necessary step away from the exclusive, untouchable mode of large-scale productions, and toward a more inclusive relationship between film viewers and film makers.
Each screening will be preceded by a short musical performance by a different artist in each city. The production has been extremely fortunate to include work by some incredible musical talents on it’s soundtrack and we would like to continue the film’s relationship with the music world in the exhibition process in this way. The film itself is still in the final stages of post-production, but please consider the official trailer at the end of our video (above). The trailer is also viewable on youtube.com, has been featured on various blogs and is gaining viewership for the film daily.
