A month-long painting/sculpture project this October in Johnson, VT
Hi there! My name is Aaron Dunn and I just recently graduated from MICA in Baltimore. This upcoming October I will be participating in a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT.
This is an incredibly exciting point in my artistic career--and I am looking forward to joining the studio center's vibrant community and having access to its top-notch facilities for a four-week marathon of art making!

My recent sculptures explore the boundaries of painting, recasting the artist as a mad scientist or rogue plastic surgeon. Made from carved, poured & drooping latex paint, these creatures evoke a constantly shifting relationship between object & image, & explore the power play between creator & creation. I've been braiding, cutting, stitching, pouring, piercing & splicing paint; while at the Studio Center I'll be making these creatures even bigger and weirder--and farther away from the wall!

The Vermont Studio Center's residency fee is $4000, but my cost has been reduced to $2300 with the help of a $750 artist grant as well as a $600 work-exchange grant.
I'm on kickstarter to raise $3,000. This $3,000 covers the remaining expenses:
$2,300 for residency fees
$600 for travel to Johnson, Vt from Baltimore, MD; and back.
$100 for art supplies for the residency and shipping of rewards.
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing fundraising program, which means that if I don't raise my projected monetary goal, then none of the funding goes through. Thus, I've set my project goal to $1,000--but I need to raise $3,000.

I've got great PRIZES lined up for anyone who donates to the project--real pieces of my art! It's a great opportunity to collect some things for a constructive cause. More specifically:
-- Juicy original screenprints pulled by me
-- Original limited edition linocuts
--Limited Edition giclee digital prints
--Two different zines
-- Actual paintings from my studio
--The opportunity for a specially commissioned piece!
Thank you so very much for your support !! I truly appreciate it.
--Aaron

The VSC is a place to make art marathon-style for a month straight. Intensive periods like this are great incubators for making new ideas and working through problems. I'll be exploring how three-dimensional I can make my painted beasts and incorporating new media into my craft. You'll be able to see updates on my tumblr at www.aaronjdunn.tumblr.com .

Thanks so much! I'm pleased to offer you a copy of a zine I recently published with some friends entitled Hot Dice. Hot Dice was a group show I put on with some amazing artists, and we had a limited edition poster-zine combo made in full color on newsprint to celebrate the exhibition. You'll receive a copy of the beautiful 22X30 poster, which features my piece 'Flayed'; as well a copy that has been folded into the Hot Dice zine.

Just for one person: a specially commissioned head of whomever you choose or whoever you've made up--you, your sister, your imaginary friend, your first dog, Bruce Springsteen, Sarah Palin, your mailman, you name it. These heads hang suspended off the wall with some simple hanging tools, and are my own unique hybrid of painting and sculpture, made of pure latex paint. A must-have for any fine art collection, grotesquerie, or manly grouping of taxidermied wall trophies.
