The Play

Boy Gets Girl, award-winning playwright Rebecca Gilman's acclaimed drama, is a gripping and unique play, set against the backdrop of contemporary New York City. 

There are many different ideas about the purpose of theatre: to teach or engender thought, to entertain and help us escape, to reflect back to us what it means to be human, among other many worthy aims. "Boy Gets Girl" does all of these things and more. It is a play that everyone can relate to and become engrossed in. You can't learn or feel if you're bored, and Gilman intuitively knows this. This is a play that will disturb you in one moment, make you chuckle in the next, and need to discuss it all over coffee afterwards.

If you're a woman and have ever felt yourself measured and judged by the eyes of men on a city street, then this play relates to you. If you have a woman in your life, a daughter, sister, partner, friend, then this play is for you. If you admire the beauty of women, then this play is for you. If you prefer TV to the theatre, then come see this play. If you've ever done any internet or blind dating, or have ever been on any sort of date, then this play relates to you. This play is for everyone.

Production Vision

Our aim is to let Gilman’s words speak for themselves — to tell the story simply and truthfully. Theater depends on nothing more than an audience and an actor, and the barest production values to provide context for the whole. We are currently putting together our design team and arranging for performance space that will be intimate enough to preserve the theatricality of the piece. And we need your help to make it happen.

Harry Diesel Productions

It's not easy producing a play in New York City, and it's infinitely harder to do it without the aid of a theatre company or access to grants. We are taking matters into our own hands. This is show is DIY, and while we believe that the simplicity of the production will make it all the more effective, we need your support to get the show up and running.
