Trying to get funding is difficult. This project is close to my heart. Seeing Henry play blew my mind. I brought in Jeremy and Brendan, and Henry's live playing blew their minds. But it was something else about him, something much more monumental. His lack of anger, and ability to see light in almost complete darkness is astounding, and it infects you with hope.
Come along for the ride.
thanks
Hank Cherry
Update #9: Wild ride
Here's Henry in the Profound Sound Trio. Henry is playing violin, Paul Dunmall on Bagpipes, and Andrew Cyrille on drums.
While the pitch is high, the mood of the song is strong, and even joyous.
Definitely proof how versatile a musician Henry is. He was 72 at this point. Adventuresome as ever.
This is from youtube, brought to you by Peopletheater....
Update #8: Spread the word
Hey backers, and anyone else thanks for the support. If you don't mind, spread the word. The photos we're offering are beautiful. The movie is coming along. The music he makes is wild and divergent. And Henry Grimes' life is a wonderful story. A triumph.
So get your pals over here, and lets make this happen.
thanks
Hank Cherry
Update #7: This just in from Margaret Grimes, Henry's wife!!!
In 2OO3, after more than 35 years away, Henry Grimes made a sensational comeback. He has since played concerts in 24 countries, recording, touring, and playing music with the likes of Rashied Ali, Marshall Allen, Fred Anderson, Bill Dixon, Dave Douglas, Andrew Lamb, "Kidd" Jordan, David Murray, Marc Ribot, and Cecil Taylor. At the age of 7O, Henry also took up a second instrument, the violin, and is now a published author with a selection of his poems entitled "Signs Along the Road."
How is this possible? How has he done it all? There's an astonishing and inspiring story to be told here. Please help these guys finish our documentary, "The Life and Death and Life of Henry Grimes"!

the song is Bow in the night by the Henry Grimes Trio.
