Have you ever felt lost and alone with nobody to turn to?
Have you ever had to pretend to be someone that you are not?
Have you ever loved someone who didn't love you back?
Have you ever had a deep dark secret that you had to hide, even from your best friend?
This is the story of 3 people who have.
Fireflies is a dramatic story about two friends' journey to overcome personal demons and escape the monotony of small town life for a chance to start living. The story follows the lead character "Hart", a gay young man who struggles to tell his only true friend the truth about who he really is.
We have been developing our film "Fireflies" for a little over three years now. We’ve been fortunate enough to get a wonderful team of people behind us simply based on their passion for the script.
We have come such a long way from realizing that we had a story that we had to tell and having no idea how to go about doing so. Now we need your help. Your support for Fireflies is not only a contribution to our film, but to our future as filmmakers.
It has become increasingly difficult to find investors for independent film so we have decided to begin raising the money on our own through passionate people who see the potential in this film and in us as filmmakers. A donation as little as $1 can help us to reach our goal. We are not looking for any personal monetary gain, we simply have a beautiful story that we must tell and we desperately want to see it come to life.
JJ Lask, our director has become a recognized talent at the Sundance Film Festival with his film "On the Road with Judas" premiering there in 2007, and his acceptance into the exclusive Screenwriter's Lab in 2009.
Allison Anders, our Executive Producer, has had many films at festivals all over the world including Cannes, Sundance, and Berlin. She has been nominated for 3 Independent Spirit Awards.
David Blue, our other Executive Producer, is currently starring in "Stargate Universe". His previous work includes "Ugly Betty" and "Moonlight".
The $10,000 we raise through Kickstarter will allow us to begin shooting this fall and bring this amazing story to life.
We'll be starting in Austin, Texas and driving to the west coast. Along the way we will shoot the film as organically as possibly, capturing the true look and feel of an American road trip.

Hello, I'm Bo Barrett. I grew up in the Echo Park and Silverlake neighborhoods of Los Angeles. I was always around the art of filmmaking as a kid. In 1999 I broke my jaw. Mouth wired shut and bed ridden, I was given a box of VHS movies and so my love affair with film began. I began acting in 2004 at the age of 18. After producing multiple short films and a documentary, in 2006 Gil Menchaca and I began developing the script for what would become “Fireflies”.
