Journey behind the lens of the legendary Jini Dellaccio, one of the first women rock ‘n’ roll photographers.
Art. Music. Photography. An undiscovered American master. And a Northwest treasure you can be part of preserving!
Meet Jini Dellaccio, now in her 90s -- a woman whose artistic independence, imagination and passion took her from humble beginnings to producing some of the most transformative images ever created in rock ‘n’ roll. The film explores Jini's extraordinary journey, her courage as an artist, often defying convention and navigating traditional male dominated worlds-- at a time when very few women were doing so. How did Jini end up photographing rock concerts, hanging with the likes of Neil Young and doing album covers for the godfathers of garage punk in her middle-age? What motivated her to pursue a distinctive life in art and music?
This film goes behind the scenes of Jini’s rock ‘n’ roll photography in the 1960s, reveals how she captured the frenetic energy of live concerts years before her contemporaries like Annie Leibovitz were on the scene, but it is also so much more than that.
With your help, an inspiring and untold story of one woman's artistry can be shared with audiences everywhere.
This funding campaign is about meeting some of the remaining production costs we face to digitally preserve photos, many of which have been unseen for decades. In order for them to be used in the film, we must be able to restore the images. The photos will be scanned using a technically specialized process designed to preserve the images in the best quality possible. Our efforts, with your support, will ensure Jini's legacy is accessible as an inspiring resource for artists, photography and rock ‘n’ roll fans alike, as well as available for arts education purposes.
The photos we want to digitially preserve include not only masterful portraits of great Northwest bands like The Daily Flash, The Wailers, The Sonics and Merrilee Rush but stunning concert shots Jini captured of bands ranging from The Rolling Stones to The Who, The Mamas & Papas, Herman's Hermits and The Yardbirds. The more we raise, the more we can scan!
Why your contribution can make a difference to this project now:
Sadly, art documentaries have few places to go for funding compared to other films. We have completed principal production (shooting interviews with Jini and reunions with musicians) thanks to our beg, borrow and persuasion strategy aided by the generosity of my family and friends and the production crew. But we are running out of time. Jini is 94 and we desperately need to finish the film so Jini can enjoy the wider recognition she deserves, in her lifetime.
We need to urgently finance this last stage of the production process so we can move into the edit suite; your contribution now gets us a vital step closer to completing a film that goes behind the scenes of some of Jini’s most extraordinary photo shoots and explores her life’s work, bringing art and music together. We hope you want to be part of this journey with us.
Jini Dellaccio defined a generation of rock 'n' roll and her work still inspires photographers and musicians alike. Now you have an opportunity to help share this incredible story.
